Connection Problem on my Laptop
Hello there,
About a week ago, i turned on my laptop and tried to connect to internet explorer, and was surprised to see the white "could not find website" screen.
I thought ok, i'll connect through my vodafone wireless internet 56K card...again i got the "could not find website" screen on internet explorer various times.
I waited a few days to see if the problem had cleared, but no it's just the same tonight.
The strange this is that i can connect to my xbox 360 through my ethernet connection on the same router, but not connect to my laptop through my usb connection on the same router.
So what is the problem? and what can i do to fix it?
As im not very technically minded, help would be very much appreciated and prevent me from spending some money on calling out an engineer.
Thanks in advance.
Blake.

Re: Connection Problem on my Laptop
Hi
has your laptop got a ethernet connection, I would recommend you try that to connect to the router.
Forget the usb connector, unless it is for a shared printer, in my opinion

Re: Connection Problem on my Laptop
Yeah it does, but i use the ethernet connection for my xbox 360, and i've configured the laptop to work with USB, so not really an option..

Re: Connection Problem on my Laptop
Ok, so this to me says you have both ethernet and USB connected at the same time? seems like the modem is getting confused here.

Re: Connection Problem on my Laptop
You can only use the Ethernet Port or USB Port one at a time

Re: Connection Problem on my Laptop
I've got a router, which has one ethernet, and one USB port in it allowing you to work both at the same time (360 and laptop) if needs be...which i have been doing for about 2 years up until recently when the internet connection to my laptop but not my 360 stopped working.

Re: Connection Problem on my Laptop
Thats a modem then, which doesn't support 2 connections at a time. Unless of course i'm missing a time when ntl supplied routers?

Re: Connection Problem on my Laptop
Did you used to subscribe to the NTL XBOX service and pay extra? That stopped not too long ago because so many people have routers, but it could be a way you used to have both Enet & USB active. Either way, if you just have a single 'NTL box' which has a coax going in and USB/ethernet output, it is a Cable Modem and won't now share the internet. Afraid you need a proper router. now.
