Re: network a ntl 250 modem

From a quick google, what you have is an ADSL modem/router, in which case it won't work with cable, I'm afraid.

Cable router. The Internet connection only suppors one IP address, so a switch or hub will not do the business.

Re: network a ntl 250 modem

A very warm to the forum
you can use what you got and set up internet connection sharing I believe never tried this but the router you have will work as a switch with no wan connection afaik.this method involves a server and client and the main pc will have to be on to share with the client

yes. iirc it has a built in 4 port switch, but you can expand this with another switch if you wish.

Which router did you buy ? You said you have bought a dsl router (I hope you mean cable) as has already been said, you need a cable router.

Re: network a ntl 250 modem

Looks like it should work fine.

Usually best thing is to:
Power everything off
Connect CM to router with Rj45 cable (plugged into WAN port of router)
Connect router to a PC with another RJ45
power on CM (wait 30 secs)
power on router and then PC
Try browsing to www.bbc.co.uk
If that fails, logon to the admin page of the router (manual should give default IP address of router, eg a Linksys is always on 192.168.1.1)
Router needs to be using DHCP to obtain an IP address.

Most routers will be working at this point. As this is an 'unknown' router, you would need to tell us the manufacturers website to look at the manuals if it doesn't work.

Once you have a working cabled connection, the manual should describe now to get the wireless working!

That seems to be ok, from reading the description. Although it is a little ambiguous, a full model name would have been nice (unless I missed it lol).

What have you done so far ? Plugged the cable modem in to the Wan port on the back of the router ? Attached and installed the usb adapter to the pc ?

Good advice from Aragorn there.

Let us know what you have actually done so far.
