Wirless Connection Problem
I have 2 Laptops. One is Vista , second one is XP. Virgin modem connected to access point. On machine with XP no connection problems. On Vista machine, with cable connection it is no problem, but when I want connect wireless, it says I am connected in the right bottom corner of the screen, but Internet Explorer doesn't work. Go to Network and Sharing system try to obtain IP automatic no luck. Got new modem from Virgin, but problem still exist.
Laptop and access point, work fine in my office ,only at home can not get connected.
It is been over two weeks and I can not get my Vista Laptop connected.
Please help!!!!!

Re: Wirless Connection Problem!HELP!!!!!!
Is it really an Access Point or a Router?
Is the XP system active when you can't connect?
What does the IP address start with when 'not connected' (go to 'View Status' in Network & Sharing, then click 'Details') - don't post the full IP v4 address, just first two parts, eg 192.168

Re: Wirless Connection Problem!HELP!!!!!!
An access point will only allow one device to connect.
i.e. it doesn't share the IP address.

Re: Wirless Connection Problem!HELP!!!!!!
Indeed, unless it's a router you can only connect one device. A router is used to share one VM address with multiple local devices, whereas an access point has no facility to share.

Re: Wirless Connection Problem!HELP!!!!!!
do you power cycle the modem when plugging in the router?
Try the following -
turn off modem & router
power on modem and wait for lights to settle
plug router 'WAN' port into modem and power on router
plug a laptop into one of the LAN ports on the router, via ethernet cable
try to browse to here.

Re: Wirless Connection Problem!HELP!!!!!!
First thing is to get a wired connection working through the router.
Then try one of the laptops looking for the wireless signal of the router.
I'm not sure whether the VM supplied router is locked down or you have admin access.
