new router problem

Hi,
I am setting up a router for my mum but cant access most of the internet either wired or wirelessly.
I can only access this site and the main google page as well as tesco but nothing else.
The router looks to be setup correctly as i can access these few pages but i am completely stumped.
She has the free sky broadband which works perfectly with her modem.
It is a zoom x6 wireless router

Re: new router priblem

If it's ADSL, isn't the router supposed to replace the modem?

Have you set up username and password on the modem/router?

Re: new router priblem

You have her login details to connect to the internet? And they have been entered into the router config page? If so, it might be the case that sky won't authenticate it as it's not one of their devices.

Re: new router priblem

The login details are correct.
If sky wont authenticate it shouldn't that mean
I can't get on at all?

Re: new router priblem

Was the router new or has it possibly been configured for someone else before?
This might explain why there's access to some sites but not others.
It may have rules set up within it for specific access.

Re: new router priblem

It looks as if there is a website filter which is allowing access to only a few sites. See if you can find and change this filter.

Re: new router priblem

I've looked through all the config pages for the modem and there doesn't seem to be any kind of filter that i havent disabled.
I have also turned off the firewall in windows and the built in one for the router
The only thing I can see is that on the adsl configuration page it says bitswap disabled
and activate line is none

Re: new router priblem

The Tesco page, could be a cached page..

Does the router, give you any kind of status, i.e "connected"
Are there any lights on the router, i.e, power, sync, etc etc

I would also suggest clearing your cache so you get "real" results.

If you are on vista, do this:-

Click start, then in the search box type cmd, at the top of the start bar, right click on "CMD.EXE" & click run as administrator.

In DOS, type:

ipconfig /flushdns

Once done, click close.

Now try and visit a site, for example http://www.google.co.uk

If you get "google" then I would suggest:

* Check your firewall status on the PC. If there is one.
* Check any anti virus / spyware / malware programs you may have running.

OR:

Go back into DOS

and type ping bbc.co.uk

If you can paste the results and any more information you can provide us with, one of us, should be able to resolve this.

I would also apeak to your ISP to confirm all the necessary settings, they will probably say something like "third party routers arnt supported" just get the settings and re-enter them, if need be, reset the router, should be pin whole somewhere.

Re: new router problem

Need to ping without the www

The bbc for some reason reject pings to www.bbc.co.uk but allow pings to bbc.co.uk
