Exploding Roadworks

Luckily it looks like nobody was injured.

Impressive how the 4 chamber covers and barrier get launched into the air!

Underground gas leak? Burn marks on the telephone cabinet.

Re: Exploding Roadworks

The only conduit explosion I've seen was a developing short in a high voltage cable. BIG bang when it became a full short circuit.

Lots of acrid smoke then BOOM! as in this video.

If you look at the fourth still photo you will see the doors are missing from both the smaller cabinets. It is these that are flying through the air, not the chamber covers.

Re: Exploding Roadworks

That could well be the case. I wondered how they were launched upward however.. The chamber covers looked more launchable to me. Plus they were strewn around afterwards.

I guess the barrier launched upwards too.. but that could have happened if it was over one of the chamber covers at T-minus "0".

All the pressure would have concentrated through the ducts below the cabs. My guess is that would blow the bottom latches out momentariliy before the top ones, causing the doors to rotate upward.

Re: Exploding Roadworks

Chamber covers are very heavy, heavier than cab doors anyway. Therefore the pressure from the blast took the path of least resistance, and blew the bloody doors off!
