Local area connection 3 is probably the USB connection.

Don't worry about the wireless stuff for now. Get a wired connection running first because you need that to configure the router's wireless settings.

If you haven't been using the ethernet (network) port on your computer, it may not be working properly. Try deleting it from within Device Manager and then install new drivers for it (check your computer manufacturer's web site for it). When you want to swap from the USB to a network card connection, power the computer off so it can clear out any settings. Try not using the USB at all whilst you wipe and reload the network card.

I think you could be right, someone at work suggested I reinstall my NTL broadband disc to see if the ethernet kicked in again, but it won't let me install keeps coming up with an error saying there is a problem with a network adapter. Not really sure about deleting any drivers in case I can't find them again to reinstall from the web and ending up in more of a mess!
