virgin problems

Having really bad connection problems for 4 months, dropping speed all time and sometimes disconnecting anyone know what this could be:S?

So what could be the problem eg when i switch pc on the speed is 54 slowly drops to 34 then 18 then 2 sometimes it will stay at 54 and sometimes it will just completly dc

Are you using a wireless router? I ask as you use the figure 54.
If so, try changing the channel it broadcasts on.

No router is wired however connection to pc is wirelss

That's what Mags meant.

Have a look in the router's control panel and see if you can find the setting for the wireless channel/frequency.

Try experimenting with changing this number for a different one, you might be getting interference from your neighbours. So, if you're on 7 at the moment try channel 1 or channel 11. Leave it like that for a few days and see if that helps at all, if it doesn't then change again. Work your way through the channels until you work out which is best.

Also, make sure that you've got decent security set up on your router. WPA2 should be the minimum, it's possible that your speed losses could be being caused by someone else using your network to download/browse.

Moved to NETWORKING as it's a wireless problem and nothing to do with the modem

Hmm wpa2 were can i try this im guessting the channel is on the network cards modem properties? i changed for 1 to 11
