Problem: Simultaneous Wireless Internet Connection on 2 Laptops with NTL Cable Broadb

Hi

Im a newbie so please forgive my ignorance on this subject.

I have:
Netgear WGR614 Router connected to NTL Cable Broadband Modem
2 New Dell Insipiron Laptops with wireless cards

I set up the router on 1st Laptop using Ethernet cable connection to router.

When I connected the 1st Laptop to the internet it worked fine but when the 2 laptops try to connect to the network at the same time only 1 laptop can go on the internet. Seems to be the first laptop to go on internet works.

Can someone help me please?

Can you check a setting for me? On the working laptop, can you go to http://www.routerlogin.net/basicsetting.htm (try http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm if that doesn't work).

Now look to the menu on the left. Under the heading "Advanced", look for "LAN IP Setting". Click this.

Make sure the option called "Use Router as DHCP server" is ticked.

Now, on both laptops, Go to Xp's control panel, click "Network Connections". Right click on the Wireless connection (it may be called "Wireless connection" or "Wireless network"). Select "Properties".

Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click "Properties".

On the following windows, make sure that both "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are selected.

Click OK on all the dialogs.

I recently added a Dell Inspiron to our network. By default the wireless capability of this laptop was disabled in the BIOS settings - it's worth a look!

Right can you check the IPs of the working and not-working laptops please and put them here by going

start->run and hit enter
type "ipconfig" (no quotes) and hit enter
type the field "IP Address" for each laptop on here.

Thanks.
