Belkin Pre N with NTL Broadband

I have installed a Belkin Pre N router for use withy my NTL Broadband service, however the laptop only gets signal strength when it is in the same room, how can I boost the signal so I can use my laptop around the house?

Any useful comments?

don't know the answer, but remove your email mate. Spambots trawl forums for emails and you could get hijacked. People can send you a PM via the forum - they don't need your email address.

Re: Belkin Pre N with NTL Broadband

Hi,

I also have the Belkin Pre-N router and Ntl BB. I have no problems with loss of signals from any computer any were in the house. We have 7 wirelessly connected computers and laptops all over the house and not one of them has a siganl strength of below 80% so i cannot see how you can completly lose signal just by leaving the room.

Just having the antenna in the wrong place can cause this. Just move the antenna a little, maybe point it in a different direction. Being a radio ham you get to know these things

Re: Belkin Pre N with NTL Broadband

As this is not a problem specific to NTL, I have moved the thread to the Computers and IT forum.

Very easily. The signal can be affected by local interference sources (Microwaves, TVs, other networks), and also by the structure of the building (for instance, if a lot of metal is used in the structure of a building, this will reduce all wireless signal strengths.

Re: Belkin Pre N with NTL Broadband

little something...have you tried changing any of the wireless channels on http://192.168.2.1 then go to Wireless and there select Channel and SSID, default the channel on the PRE-N is set to Default so change it say to channel 8 would improve your network.

btw which laptop have you got and which card is in it?

Leave the channel selction to AUTO as this automatically scans the area and selects the channel witht he least noise.

I have the same router and and have broken one of my areials and it still works great, full singal all over the house

Re: Belkin Pre N with NTL Broadband

have you only just purchased it? if so, you're getting the same problems I and other have experienced with that pre n router - the solution for me was to return it to pcworld and purchase a linksys.

Re: Belkin Pre N with NTL Broadband

The problem seems to be maintaining the connection, or getting one in the first place, would a belkin card for the laptop help??

Re: Belkin Pre N with NTL Broadband

I would possible point the blame to the laptop. I have a laptop that gets superb wireless connection and the pc with a antenna sticking out the back gets a low signal at all times.
