Netgear 2000 problem

hi all, newbie here.

i have just set up my 10 meg virgin broadband connection with a wireless router. i have my ps3 and laptop in the network.

netgear2000.

its all connected fine but when i have my connection "wired" i get a connection of around 9mb/s which i am happy with. even when wired through the router.

i put it wireless and the connection drops to around 3 mb/s.

all the firmware is up to date and i have it set to up to 300mb/s.

and ideas on what im doing wrong??? im at end of my teather have rang support and thay just went over installing it which ive already done.
