Re: Football Season 2012/2013
Lets get this one thing straight, why the hell does politics have to come into football with what De Canio has said in the past.
Its like David Cameron would welcome Celtic and Rangers in the EPL, but this is being blocked by the bigotry between by the football authorities.
What is happening here is that Sunderland have chosen a bloke as his passion for football is top of his agenda.
Sunderland must have thought about this before deciding on De canio, but it takes people with small minds to get involved in this damn thing, which is causing problems.
Its like asking Arsene Wenger to become Tottenham boss, due to his stint at Arsenal this would bring uproar in North London.
Its about saving a great football club from relegation, not about what he has said in the past.

Manchester City's Samir Nasri says Stan Kroenke forced Arsenal to sell
• Midfielder says Arsène Wenger had to listen to offers for him
• Nasri rebuffs Roberto Mancini's comments about his form
Speaking on beIN Sport, a French TV station, Nasri said: "I don't regret leaving Arsenal. I won the league while Arsenal have difficulty finishing fourth."
"Wenger told me that, if Cesc [Fàbregas] left, I would stay but Kroenke wanted the money. The coach told me we'll only take Gervinho, Cesc was already gone, I had only one year left so I decided to leave,"
"Wenger is the best coach I've worked with. I only regret not having more discussions with Arsène Wenger when I left,"
"He's the one who understood me the most and made me the player I am. I'm thankful."

What knowledge has this been based on ? He's been playing in the USA and I haven't had access to TV pictures from their league to judge if he is or isn't any good any more

If he was any good anymore he would still be in the England side but alas for the last few years he is frankly more showbiz like then being a proper footballer.

With all his money you thought it would have been wise for him to employ someone to drive him around.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013
Statement from Paolo Di Canio
Published: 03 April, 2013
by Sunderland AFC
Head coach speaks.
PAOLO DI CANIO, Wednesday 03 April, 2013
“I have clearly stated that I do not wish to speak about matters other than football, however, I have been deeply hurt by the attacks on the football club.
“This is a historic, proud and ethical club and to read and hear some of the vicious and personal accusations is painful. I am an honest man, my values and principles come from my family and my upbringing.
"I feel that I should not have to continually justify myself to people who do not understand this, however I will say one thing only - I am not the man that some people like to portray.
“I am not political, I do not affiliate myself to any organisation, I am not a racist and I do not support the ideology of fascism. I respect everyone.
“I am a football man and this and my family are my focus. Now I will speak only of football.”

well said Paolo hopefully people will let him do his job now

Re: Football Season 2012/2013
People want to see society via the prism of football. Remember the racism scandals last year? They're relatively tame in the grand scheme of things, meriting punishment but not the outrage that papers had at the time. Even the Government said they would have to step in if football didn't get it's house in order! The Government would do better to examine in society as a whole rather than pretending it was a problem that begins and ends with Football. A traditionally working class sport, sometimes poorly educated players and players from abroad? Not a surprise that occasionally one of them would say something unacceptable.
Same here. People look to football to 'set an example' when it's clearly not suited to the task. It's populated with a lot of morons and most of them are in the stands.
