Not really stimulating.

I think it's more often the case than not. If you're electing one person to run the country that person will have had to make a number of compromises to accommodate the electorate.

That said Macron did win the first round too. At least that percent of his support was not with him because he wasn't Le Pen.

He also walked out on stage during Europe Anthem, rather than French Anthem, that would not have gone down well with many in France.

Re: European Elections 2017

Interestingly, according to exit polls, Macron scored highest amongst people older than 70, followed by young people. It's the middle aged who voted most for Le Pen. So Le Pen scored lowest with young idealists and people who actually remember what a right wing/Nazi France was like.

He has made no secret of his pro-EU stance. Campaigning with EU flags behind him for example.

NF always struggled with anyone who was around in WW2 and the Vichy regime.

Yes I sense some of the Brexit brigade are gutted by this result. It ain't going to make it easy for May. He's pro EU and on record as saying that the UK shouldn't be allowed to have the best of both worlds, not the best of signs.

l was talking to my nurse this morning about the choice for the electorate in France , America and Britain and basically l said its about picking the best of a bad bunch IMO as sadly the calibre of politician we have nowadays compared to the past is not that good IMO.

Actually, I didn't care one iota. Macron winning now paves the way for the possibility of a no deal and hard brexit from that pile of garbage. Guess I'm not bonkers after all for not wanting to be associated with a corrupted entity.

Re: European Elections 2017

Agreed. It makes much more likely what I and many others voted for: A complete break from the EU. Not EU lite that the remoaners seem to want.

Anybody, especially Mr Junckers and his ilk, that think this result means that everything is hunky dory in EU land best be very very careful about how they go about their business over the next 5 years.

The Right has risen across Europe, so much so that they are now in the mainstream and not on the fringes. If the EU refuses to change their outlook and acknowledge their failed ideology and policies then they will be doomed.

Just because the pro-EU centre parties have won this round of elections (Germany still to go obviously) it does not guarantee anything in the next 5 years.

If I was the EU commission, I would be relieved but not triumphant. They need to change and to do that they need to get rid of the self serving dinosaurs like Junckers out of the commission.

Don't get your love for corruption. But don't get complacent, they are still losing a major financial and contributing member. Plus there is no way we will be paying a hefty divorce bill, those fools deserve nothing.
