changing an ntl ip address if youre behind a belkin wireless (MODEM) router

follow these intructions to get a new ip address if youre on NTL and using a belkin wireless modem router like myself.
(NOT THIS PROCEDURE WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE BEHIND A ROUTER AND THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ONLY FOR THE BELKIN WIRELESS MODEM ROUTERS.)
Now lets get you a new ip address. follow the instructions below but (DO NOT) skip ahead.

step 1
load up internet explorer and type the following ip address of youre router in the address bar to access youre belkin router setup utility this is commonly know as the (DEFAULT GATEWAY)
>default gateway for belkin routers>192.168.2.1

step 2
the next page youl see will say
belkin wireless router setup utility
and there will be a list of menus down the left hand side

step 3
click (MAC ADDRESS) located in
(INTERNET WAN) menu
on the next page youl see where it says (WAN MAC ADDRESS) and next to it youre 12 digit mac address

example
Wan Mac Address > 00/00/00/dd/00/00
change the last 2 digits to 2 numbers (ONLY)

before you changed youre Wan Mac Address > 00/00/00/dd/00/00
after you changed youre Wan Mac Address >00/00/00/dd/00/<what ever you changed the last 2 digits to

example
Wan Mac Address > 00/00/00/dd/00/04

step 4
now click the (APPLY CHANGES BUTTON)
then wait for 25 seconds so the router can reboot.

(NOTE)
YOU MAY NEED UNPLUG YOURE (CABLE NTL MODEM) FOR (10 SECONDS) IF THE (INTERNET LIGHT) ON YOURE BELKIN WIRELESS MODEM ROUTER IS CONSTANTLY FLASHING IF THIS IS THE CASE
1 UNPLUG THE CABLE NTL MODEM FOR 10 SECONDS BUT LEAVE THE ROUTER POWERD
2 AFTER 10 SECONDS HAS PASSED PLUG IT BACK IN THEN THE (INTERNET LIGHT) ON YOURE ROUTER SHOULD EVENTUALLY STOP FLASHING AND REMAIN SOLID
THEN THATS IT YOURE IP ADDRESS HAS CHANGED FOLLOW THESE STEPS AGAIN TO CHANGE YOURE IP ADDRESS AGAIN.
ENJOY

I've deleted your email address. You'll only end up with a pile of spam. If anyone does want to try this, and has problems, best to post in the thread, that way everyone can benefit.

Most people will not need to change IP anyway, unless they are trying to trick some website somewhere.

This probably will only work if you have a modem. If you have a STB internet connection, then forcing an IP change may well trigger the ntl servers to think you have a new computer connecting in which case you may need to reregister with the ntl servers.

Rob is right though- If people using a Set Top Box to connect follow the guide, they will need to provision the new router again, as it will be seen as a new device.
