Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
it be better if u tell us which model router u using
and you shouldn't be using any USB connections
does the NTL 250 modem have USB??
with the number 1 light,
i suspect u are saying the number 1 light on the router correct??
it only lights up if u have a ethernet cable connected to a working (turned on) network card or whatever
if u put more info here i would expect the more techie minded people will be able to help u

Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
The WAN light should be on on the router, as the modem needs to be plugged into the WAN port.
If the modem is plugged into the WAN port, and the light is not on, then it could be a dodgy cable or ethernet port.

You connect the modem directly to the router with an ethernet lead, Its the stand alone ethernet socket,it sits aside from the 4 port ethrnet sockets.

Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Please be aware that you can't use the USB and ethernet ports on the modem at the same time. Remove the USB, plug in the ethernet to the WAN port, reboot/start the modem, reboot/start the router and then finally reboot/start the PC's

Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
as Toto said
u connect the modem to the routers WAN socket with ethernet lan cable
then u connect your PC and/or other device to the 1-4 ports also with a ethernet lan cable
USB cable should not be used at all
then power down all the equipment
and turn them on 1by1 in order of
modem -> routher -> PC and other devices
and with the 1-4 number lights
only if the corresponding sockets are connected and used will they turn on

Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Do you have an ethernet cable connecting the modem to the router WAN port?
Do you have another ethernet cable connecting the computer ethernet port to one of the LAN ports on the router?

Is your computer ethernet card showing as working in the device manager on the PC?

what operating system are you using?
IIRC in XP you right click 'my computer' & choose device manager from the drop down
In Vista do 'start', control panel, device manager
- you are looking for the 'network adapter' & choose yours from the list & select properties ..

Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance then System or System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager.
