Question Wireless Setup

Hi,

i have a friend who is trying to setup her internet so it works wirelessly and wired.

She moved into the house (uni student) and there was a Linksys WRT54G wireless router already at the house and they ordered a telewest modem (motorola surfboard)..but there was no software for the linksys

The housemates are having trouble setting up the internet connection.

The connection they have is as follows:

Connection from wall > motorola modem > linksys modem > computers (wired..wireless doesnt work)

The wire from the wall, isnt the correct size to fit directly into the linksys wireless router, so it has to go through the motorola one first.

How would they go about getting it wireless and working?

ok on the wired pc goto start then run and type cmd.
In the box type ipconfig /all
a list will pop up
take note of the ip it will be 192.168.*.*

then exit and type this address into a web browser
this will allow you to access the router pages user and password iirc are both admin. In this config will be all your wireless setting turn in on and select security (use wpa) and create your password. Then on the wireless pc you should see the router just connect and use your password

As Zing says, you need to configure the router from a wired PC. The default address is http://192.168.1.1 There is no user name but default password is admin.
There is a WRT54G user guide here that might help.

When you say 'ordered a Telewest modem', she does have a Telewest account doesn't she? I would have thought an engineer would have come out & installed the modem if that was the case...
