England V Spain U17's world cup final

Just been watching this and it serves to illustrate just how negative, turgid and tentative so much of the senior squad's play is. Didn't realise it was being shown on BBC TV so fingers crossed England can come up with a win.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/41753532

Having gone 2-0 down then hit the post with a great effort, England have scored a great goal to make it 2-1 just before half time.

Good luck lads.

5-2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic.

.... and they've done it!!!!

What a result. 0-2 down just before half time and go on to score 5 goals. Staggering.

I hope the senior squad learn something.

British TV only got interested when they reached the final. No british channel transmitted any other match. It has been a brilliant tournament all the way through. All other matches have been on Eurosport.

Can't believe they didn't show the trophy being presented (unless I missed something..)

Haven't got much hope for next years World Cup, but in 2022 we might have a few new stars and a real chance.

Very poor. Ponderous and predictable a lot of the time. Lacking in ideas and all too often negative even when steering defeat and certain tournament exit in the face. It's almost like they'd rather lose 1-0 playing with no ambition than give it their all and lose 3-0. There's something about playing for England that brings the mediocre out of a lot of players. I have no idea what it is but these young lads showed they have the skill, pace, flair and spirit all too many of their senior squad idols lack when.

For those who missed it, some highlights:

Re: England V Spain U17's world cup final

it's probably a bit like the lower league teams, the players there give it all 'cos they want to play football, and they have nothing to lose, but everything to gain, a great performance for the U17 team could mean playing for their club first team or a move to a bigger team, or the men's team.

players in the men's team could be too worried about making a mistake which will not only stop the team doing well, but will harm their career both international and club level. The kids don't have that fear. But then saying that, doesn't explain why players in the German team for example don't have that problem.

l don't think there is any doubt that we produce talent but my concerns are will they ever be given first team chances at their clubs in time.

Depends if they're good enough really, many who get lost around 18 or 19 years old might not have been good enough to make it anyway. As usual comparisons have been made between the German winners in 2009 and how many went on to win the world cup, compare the teams, we were lucky it was only 4-0 they had some sensational players and if ours develop like theirs we will be very lucky indeed.
