Nintendo Revolution gamepad revealed.

Very interesting... As you'll see radically different from before, have to wait and see wether the gamble pays off.

Although one thing I am happy about, is that with the analogue addon, and the "free look" of the controller, you may finally, after all these years, play a FPS on a console. That could be enough to swing it for me, but i'd have to wait and see, games for Nintendo tend to be more limited than PS/Xbox.

Re: Nintendo Revolution gamepad revealed.

Basically its like a TV remote control, and its motion sensing so it works by moving your hand around and pointing at the screen, like a lightgun. It also detects tilting, and can acurately detect the slash effect of a sword, apparently.

Only problem is, only seems to have 2 main buttons, a big A on the front, and a B trigger, on the underside for your index finger(although there is another B on the front too).

Re: Nintendo Revolution gamepad revealed.

oh no, that looks pants, a one handed game controller. Looks more like a TV remote than a games controller.

Not what I expected at all.

Re: Nintendo Revolution gamepad revealed.

Wow, that is different.
I can see it taking some time to get used to it. Plus I think I would need the add on controller as I prefer gaming with both hands, not just one.
It will be interesting to have a go with this thats for sure.
Nintendo said they were going different, and they sure seem to be.

Re: Nintendo Revolution gamepad revealed.

May look terrible but I would love to give it a shot for a few hours on a FPS.

Re: Nintendo Revolution gamepad revealed.

I think to only have 2 buttons would be really restrictive. And to to have a motion sensing controller, will really ache your arm, to keep it outstretched (try ti yourself for a min or two).

I don't think the technology is going to be accurate enough, but we'll see. The testers seem to like it and thought it was quite intruitive.

Re: Nintendo Revolution gamepad revealed.

well the general feeling from people I have told about it and shown the pics to are that it is a bit gimicky and also a bit pants for gaming. It may be good for games nintendo make for it but what would it be like trying to use it for normal games like football games and RPG games that require more than just a couple of buttons.

The article points out :-

"An expansion port on the bottom of the unit allows for add-on hardware to compliment this "remote controller" (our word for it, not Nintendo's), like a second controller piece Nintendo demonstrated that comes equipped with an analogy stick and two trigger buttons (currently labelled Z1 and Z2, for those of you keeping track). When the two controller pieces are attached, the so-called 'Nunchaku' configuration (the two bits are connected by a short cord) can work similarly to current controllers, just with the second analog stick replaced by actual movement of the Revolution controller. Nintendo also mentioned that the controller stick could be slipped inside other, more conventional controller shells, dance mats, bongos, or other peripherals."

And this (not very revolutionery is it?LOL!)

"Until you turn the controller 90 degrees and it becomes just like an old 8-bit NES joypad, with the D-pad under your left thumb and "a" and "b" under your right."

IMO I think Ninty are making a big mistake with this console.
