Saddler's Rock strives to go two better than last year in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot this afternoon.

John Oxx's stayer should possibly have a few more big-race wins on his CV than just the Doncaster and Goodwood Cups. Not a horse seemingly blessed with a huge amount of luck, he was third in this race 12 months ago on unsuitably soft ground and things went badly wrong in the Dubai Gold Cup in March.

Smartly away under Declan McDonogh, his saddle soon slipped and his rider was unable to ride any kind of finish, doing well in the end to be as close as he was.

Riposte lands emotional Ribblesdale.

Riposte provided the Royal Ascot crowd with the win they were all craving for Lady Cecil in the Ribblesdale Stakes.

Lady Cecil's husband Sir Henry Cecil died only last week but laid out all his plans for the meeting, at which he recorded a record 75 winners, beforehand.

After missing the break, Tom Queally had to make ground up quickly but Riposte did that effortlessly and quickened in the style of a very smart filly to beat Just Pretending by two and a quarter lengths.

Estimate raised the roof at Royal Ascot by providing the Queen with victory in the Gold Cup.

Trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Ryan Moore, the four-year-old filly become the first horse owned by a reigning monarch to win the two-and-a-half-mile showpiece.

The 7-2 favourite was challenged strongly inside the final furlong by Simenon and French raider Top Trip, but Estimate stuck her neck out gamely for a famous success.

Estimate won at the meeting last year in the Queen's Vase, returning to action this season with victory in the Sagaro Stakes, after which she was promoted towards the head of the Gold Cup market.

Plenty were in with chances turning into the straight after a slow gallop had been set, and the likes of Elik, Just Pretending and Winsili were waiting to pounce. However, as soon as Queally pressed the button, Riposte, related to the great Frankel, put the race to bed. Just Pretending made up plenty of ground from the rear to claim second, with Elik third and Winsili fourth.

Classic showdown in Coronation.

Sky Lantern and Just The Judge, first and second in the 1000 Guineas, meet once again in a mouthwatering renewal of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot today.

Richard Hannon's Sky Lantern was a Group One winner at two and although she was beaten on her return in the Nell Gwyn, she showed the benefit of that run when coming with a late run to nail the Charlie Hills-trained Just The Judge close home.

Just The Judge gained some compensation when winning the Irish 1000 Guineas in fine style and Hills is quietly confident of reversing the Newmarket Classic form in Berkshire.

Lantern takes Coronation crown

Sky Lantern defied stall 16 of 17 to run out a hugely impressive winner of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Richard Hughes made an early decision to drop the grey filly, winner of the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on her most recent outing, in last from her outside stall and needed to pass every rival in the straight.

However, when he pressed the button the response was electric as trainer Richard Hannon got off the mark for the meeting in the best possible style. French raider Kenhope was a distant second, with Irish Guineas winner Just The Judge in third.

Hillstar peaks in King Edward

Just 24 hours after winning the Ascot Gold Cup with the Queen's Estimate, Sir Michael Stoute unearthed a viable contender for the St Leger after Hillstar took the King Edward VII Stakes under a fine waiting ride from Ryan Moore.

Investec Derby fourth Battle Of Marengo was sent off the 10-11 favourite for the Group Two over a mile and a half and jockey Joseph O'Brien made a bold bid for home. The race looked over as he was a good three lengths clear of the pack entering the final furlong, but Hillstar made relentless progress on the outside.

Fanshawe 'happy' with Rock star.

James Fanshawe is keeping his fingers crossed Society Rock gets the breaks as he aims to regain his crown in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot today.

The dual course and distance winner was something of a surprise victor when triumphing in the mud in the 2011 Jubilee, despite finishing second in the race a year earlier, but has proved that to be no fluke with a number of top-notch efforts at the highest level since.

Lethal dazzles in Diamond

Lethal Force ran out a hugely impressive winner of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot for trainer Clive Cox and jockey Adam Kirby.

The four-year-old grey made just about every yard of the running and burst clear two furlongs out.

The 4-1 favourite Society Rock made up relentless ground under Kieren Fallon and at one stage looked likely to reel in the leader, but Kirby kept Lethal Force up to his work and the 11-1 chance crossed the line two lengths clear. Krypton Factor (25-1) finished well for third, with Gordon Lord Byron and Sea Siren close up behind.

Paul Cole's Berkshire ran out a convincing winner of the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Sent off at 16-1 after finishing third on his debut at Newbury, the Jim Crowley-ridden winner came from last to first within a matter of strides.

Drawn 21 of 21, the son of Mount Nelson bounded two and a half lengths clear of 11-4 favourite Bunker, with Godolphin's Ihtimal third.

Cole used to be a man renowned for his training of two-year-olds and was winning the race for a fourth time.

Wokingham glory for York

Jamie Spencer partnered York Glory to a clear-cut victory in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Held up right at the back of the pack, Kevin Ryan's grey got a perfect split on the inside of Shropshire and the 14-1 chance powered home to give the trainer a second winner of the week after Lightning Cloud's success on Friday in the Buckingham Palace Stakes.

Kieren Fallon kicked early on the well-backed Gabriel's Lad but he looked a sitting duck a furlong out and Shropshire made eyecatching progress to hit the front, but Spencer always looked to have his measure and galloped clear to win by a length and three-quarters. Dinkum Diamond was third, with Khubala fourth and Glass Office fifth.
