Ya I use my keyboard also with my emulators...... I WOULD MUCH RATHER USE A JOYSTICK!!! (My atari 2600 joysticks would be THE BEST!)

Of all the joysticks I have ever had,my atari joysticks ARE THE BEST!! (They thankfully work in my coleco also (Those joysticks are not good @ all))

Emulators ARE NOT like playing on the original consoles lemme tell ya!!

Re: keyboard or gamepad ?

Must have been a long trawl or a really specific search.

Re: keyboard or gamepad ?

Might as well give it an update.

FPS: Mouse and Keyboard combo obviously.

Games that fair better with controllers: Xbox 360 wired/Wireless - the latter requires a special adapter and a manual driver install search on Win 7 and above, the wired edition is PnP. Xbox one Controller (PnP)

PS3 DS controller - unable via charging cable and third party software. So controller choices are all preference based.

Steam Controller - Weird design, well supported on Steam and third party mods available for support outside of steam. Not a fan but a well received controller.

Note: Many PC releases that have controller support map controls for the Xbox 360 and Xbox one controller by default. Few games offer PlayStation layout.

Wheel: Logitech G25 or G27. Both fantastic setups and well worth the money for sim racing enthusiast's.

Flight sim: Saitek x52-x56. Enthusiast's gear again really so expensive. Most setups are custom with multiple modular parts all from different manufacturers. Rarely see multiple similar setups around the web as again its user preference.

VR headsets: HTC Vive. Steam and HTC combo design, can't go wrong, literally built with gaming in mind. A well received device and naturally well supported with steam games as well as third party modifications.

Custom controllers for emulation: Look at Amazon and reviews. There's no real official controllers for dedicated emulation but plenty of third party made ones that are decent. From Atari to NES etc. They're essentially just standard circuit with default button maps which you can actually DIY at home, YouTube tutorials. It's the casing of course where nostalgia arises.

Will update again in about 10 years...

>>>Fast forward, Neural implants<<<

I'm personally limited to what type of games I play, although I have around 100 I only play 2.
FPS games I use keyboard + mouse, DayZ for example
My flavour of the month at the moment is Elite Dangerous, I got back into it a couple of months ago and cant put it down. Anyway for that I use a cheap ass T-Flight X hotas, keyboard & mouse and for the camera suite I exclusively use a XBone wired joypad. Looking to get a Tobii 4C and do away with the mouse which I use for free look etc https://tobiigaming.com/eye-tracker-4c/
