I don't know, neither do you and nor did current pensioners.

Whether they get a state pension isn't a given. Yet they are expected to fund this for current generation of pensionerswho've already been lucky enough to live through the baby boomer era and many also benefit from generous work pensions (another thing the young won't get).
You must have a workplace pension though but yes, that's how it works. 'Lucky' is not a description that applies to the cold war generation (a more appropriate descriptor than the fluffy and lovely sounding 'baby boomer' label). They didn't even have computers, iphones and guaranteed electricity . They had Green Shield stamps for life's little extras along with coal fires and TB.

What the young will get is support from the 'affluent' old baby boomers who will accept as their reward for life long prudence and self-deprivation, a happy, smiley, if somewhat self-absorbed and self-entitled younger generation.

Re: Labour are insane

I have to really laugh at some of the comments on here regarding Pensioners being better off, with free this and that.

Utter rubbish. I started getting my OAP in January. A measly £152.00 what can l do with that.
I cannot give up work as l would starve. Today for example our car insurance went up by a tenner. So where does that leave me.

It appears that some Tory lovers on here have this thing that there are life is all rosy. And then they will say 'where do we get this extra money from'

The Tories will be in power for the next 20 years unless the Labour Party gets rid of Joker Corbyn. He is not fighting for the working class. He is a damn wimp.

And for Stephen Hawkins to say that the Labour Party have to sack Corbyn, that says something.

The Conservative wont hit the rich - like a Mansion Tax for the rich, or anything that will see the rich stop pouring money into the Tory Bank.

There has always been a very big gap between the rich and poor. And will continue to be.

Its like the Self Employed getting hit for extra tax. Why, they work sometimes 18 hours per day, longer than an MP does. So he gets hit - typical Tory government

No a Tory Government for a very long time. That's why Miss May isn't going to the country yet. She will wait till her time is up. Then go for it. Then another five years.

As for pensioners - no problems with them getting what they were promised. It's if the rest of the working population, who are funding current pensioners, will get the same when they retire. I suspect they won't.

Probably 60% of my income comes from pensioners NOT sitting on their money .The last 3 conservatories i have built including the one i finished today have all been for pensioners .Without a doubt pensioners are a massive source of income for my industry

Re: Labour are insane

NOT all pensioners can afford Conservatries. I have worked all my life, I left school on the Friday. I was working the following day in a greengrocers, and for the following three years. Because, l lived in poverty. Wearing wellington boots at school as my parents couldn't afford shoes.

For the next 30 years l worked cleaning up crap in deep cleaning of kitchens, and other various crap jobs that some people wouldn't do.

I have been unemployed three times. And hated the fact l could support my famly properly.
I am still working as l cannot afford to retire.

I don't blame OAPs that have saved up all the there lives to live in some form of luxury. While you get pampered kids who don't know what hard work is.

And spend that money they have saved up for. As it is certain that this government wont look after them

I sort of semi understand your post Arthur and sympathise with the challenges you have had to work through but you should be proud of what you have achieved rather than bitter? Also, why not let the moonshine wear off before posting?

Re: Labour are insane

Envious Mr K? Sure seems like it.

As ever those that do the right thing, get a job, work all their lives, buy a house, have savings, pay into a pension.......are then attacked.

The welfare state was supposed to be a safety net, not a life style.

The have nots will always be jealous of the haves. Socialism is the politics of envy.

Not all envious. Personally I have more than enough for retirement without relying on the state. It's my kids and the next generation who are getting a very raw deal I worry about.

Not affiliated to any political party, and have never voted Labour ( although that's more to with our crazy electoral system).

You not going to help them out with the large piles of cash you've accumulated?

Affluent in terms of today's pensioners maybe not, but enough to get by. However I suspect many have made little provision as they expect to get the same perks as current pensioners , they won't. Many won't be able to afford to retire at all.

Arthur, have you ever paid into a pension fund?

I'm not that much younger than you, but I realised when I was around 30 I had to start putting some money into a pension. I now have around six small pensions, because I changed jobs every couple of years to progress, but when I retire at 66 (6 years time...), I will have more than the basic state pension to live on.

We have to take some personal responsibility...

Interesting article, I wonder if the figures are still reflective

http://m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/uk_57...b0010a7f3da76b

I concur with the media bias surrounding corbyn, it's almost as if he'd done something to upset the barons like, oh I don't know, threaten to break up these all powerful groups or individuals that control so much of our media
