Router problems.

I wonder if anyone can help me?
I am on ntl: 2Meg BB via Samsung STB, PC running WindowsXP Pro SP2. There are a couple of questions I would like to ask about my connection, via my router. BTW it is a Belkin 4 portmodel : FSD5231-4, wired ethernet.
It may sound stupid but my web browesing is considerably slower when I connect via the router. Just to prove the point, I found a web site to test my suposed throughput of the connection, it is: www.internetfrog.com/mypc/
Throughput test gives me considerably slower T/P via router than if I connect directly to my STB. I know thare are better tests, ntl;'s own for one. But the bottom line is the speed is NOTICABLY faster when connected directly.

BTW As another check I have disabled my firewall which makes no difference. (ZoneAlarm Pro).

Another thing. I have noticed that during heavy downloading, say 100 -200 meg files, the connection will stop. The only cure for this, usually, is to reboot the router (not the PC or STB).

Just another bit of information for you, I have a "spare" Linksys router that I have used as a substitute. The above problems still exist with that. So I don't think that the problems are specific to one router.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: Oops, sorry. Just realised that I should have posted this in the NETWORKING section. Can some kind MOD move it for me please?
