Re: ITV drops Boat Race for football
Never saw the appeal of the boat race, totally convinced it was fixed anyway - always seemed to be the same two teams in the final.....

Did you not hear about the Pushing Daisies incident? ITV are idiots when it comes to scheduling...

I think it's more to do with the costs involved rather than not having enough channels to show it on

Re: ITV drops Boat Race for football
here we go the very fabric of civilisation abandoned for working class hero worship, typical of the decline in standards one has come to expect.
I have never seen the attraction of 22 swearing and spitting thugs injuring each-other and arguing with the referee, and on the odd occasion depositing the ball in the net, whilst the crowd hurl abuse at them and of course the odd projectile, and then after the "match" a good punch up in the street ,followed by the trashing of local businesses on the way home .

It's strange how some nights you can't see anything on terrestrial television other than football. You would think they would jump at the chance to sponsor some other forms of sport.

The race will just end up back on the BBC in all probability.

Presumably at less cost and less income for the boat race - whereas silly money is thrown at football.

Re: ITV drops Boat Race for football
That's simple economics. There's more money to be made out of football.

At last someone read the story
Nothing like telling your competitors that you wont be bidding so they can lower their bids

One race per year? At a time when they cant show live football. Sounds like smoke and mirrors to me, lets face it, it gets poor audience figures and therefore they cant charge too much for adverts when the race is on.

Re: ITV drops Boat Race for football
The Boat Race is part of English History, it will almost certainly go back to the Beeb, but l would not rule out Sky or Setanta, what l cannot understand, is when either crews win, they always go abroad to enter races, why can't they bring races to this country, The River Thames, used to be the lifeline of London going from Oxford to Southend, and l am absolutely certain that the Waterman, l believe thats what they are called, they control all the tugs etc, would welcome this with Open arms, and would also bring work to the industries that are along the river.
