No, but I favour Linksys (Cisco who run the WWW) and if you are using the WIFI and want the most modern fastest then op for "N" it cost more though, this does not affect your wired speed its only for WIFI and as "G" is 54meg you would only benifit from sending files from one PC to another in your LAN or when VM upgrade you to 50meg.

Also look into WPA to secure your wireless network so that neighbours can't use it.

That'll do you just fine-in fact I used to have one myself but the power supply packed up after a year. But my experience is probably an exception, many other user will testify to their general reliability.

Thanks John,
Really appreciate the help. It all just confuses me.
SO if i'm looking to buy the "Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router/4-Port " how do i know if it supports WPA - it doesnt say it anywhere...
how do i get WPA? Does it come with routers, or do i buy it separately?

It does support WPA (two flavours in fact TKIP and AES - don't ask) and it's allready built into the firmware on the routers. When you set it up and go through all the menus, there is one labeled 'Wireless Security' or similar. In there you can set the level of security required, the default is off or no encryption. You need to select the type of encryption needed - look out for an option called WPA - Personal and then you'll need to give it an encryption key - the longer the better. You'll then need to use the same encrytion key when setting up the laptops wireless connection.
Little tip, firstly connect your laptop to the router via cables and check you have internet connection - if not then you know the problem is not wireless related. Next setup wireless connectivity without any encryption and test again. Lastly if all is well set up the encryption at both ends and you should be good to go.

AES is more secure than TKIP. Its worth setting up WAP AES-any trouble u can call CS!
Also, i presume your Laptop has a wifi card?

Best advice by far on setting-up wireless.
