problem with IE

everytime i start my pc i can surf the net for a while or either IE or mozzila. however after a while whenever i wanna surf the web at the bottom its says website found, waiting for reply. but none of webpages load up. however my connection isn't lost because i can still sign into msn messenger.

if i want to surf the web again i have to restart PC. but now this is becoming annoying. because sometimes i can only surf for abt 5 mins and then i have to restart my PC.

can someone please help

thanks

Re: problem with IE

Have you tried another browser like Firefox?
This would tell you if it was just IE that is the issue.

Re: problem with IE

As the problem doesn't appear to be with your NTL modem, I have moved this thread to the Networking forum.

Have you checked your PC for spyware?

Re: problem with IE

certainly sounds like a spyware problem to me. Do you have a firewall running?

Well, there's your problem then. I bet you have a pc that is virused and spywared up to the hilt. I suggest you run an anti virus program, an anti spyware program and , rather importantly, get yourself a firewall otherwise you'll just keep having these problems time and time again.

to start you off:
AVG anti virus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 (scroll to the bottom)
Kerio Firewall: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm
Adaware Anti spyware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Re: problem with IE

It may not be a virus or spyware

there are a lot of sites I am having trouble with accessing and it seems to only work when i go through a proxy

Re: problem with IE

Is it certain sites, or are all sites affected? Similarly, is there any pattern to the frequency with which the problem occurs... you said 'after a while' but is 'a while' always the same amount of time?

Re: problem with IE

Ive never used a firewall or anti-virus and Ive never once had problems through spyware and/or viruses. I check weekly for spyware with various spyware checkers and have never had a single one.

I do go through a router which I suppose can help to stop attacks. Firewalls aren't everything

So do you or do you not have a firewall? And if so, which one?
