D link Router

Hi can anyone help me...

I have a D link DL 524 router which is set up wireless with my compaq Presario C300.

Problem is I cant use my internet connection wirelessly. I've only got the laptop set on on the wirless network, I can use the internet via usb motorola surboard cable modem but I cant access the internet through wireless.

I think its something to do with a DNS error, I really dont know what I'm doing and am close to giving up. Please can someone help me...I have been able to use the internet wirelessly with this setup but that was on an old laptop just dot know where I'm going wrong...

Re: D link Router

Are you trying to use the UBS and Ethernet connection on the modem at the same time? This won't work.

What you need is: Cable Modem<->Router<->Computers.

Switch everything off.

Connect router to cable modem, switch on modem and wait for lights to stabilise.

Switch on router, wait for lights to stabilise.

Connect PC to router via wired ethernet, switch on PC try and access internet.

If PC can access internet, try wirelessly via laptop

Re: D link Router

When swapping over any device directly connected to the modem, i.e. laptop to router, you must power off the modem, or the new device cannot be connected.

With your router connected, do you have internet connectivity if you are wired (ethernet) between router and a PC/laptop

Re: D link Router

I've tried all this, my laptop had built in wireless. I'm only using this on the network and internet.

I can get the laptopto connect to the network, I only have the ethernet connection between router and modem. Its not plugged in via USB, I keep getting messages sayng DNS unable to resolve IP address and on the routers admin page I've cloned the MAC address ....dont now what else to try

any more suggestions?
