I have a FVG318 VPN 802.11G Wifi router which works fine.
My laptop is also 802.11G which is also fine.
However where I live the 2.4GHz band is getting too congested and I am thinking of taking a look at the 5GHz band.
The laptop I think is easy. I buy a 5GHz USB stick and connect via that.
However what can I do to my router to do the same? It only has an Internet port to the modem and 8 off LAN ports.
Can I buy a 5GHz thing that plugs into a LAN port on the router?
I could easily be wrong so don't rely on my answer, but i think you need to buy a dual band router. Your laptop still may connect to 5ghz as my old dell did when i got a SH2.
Yeah, you'll need a router that supports 5GHz (either superhub for example).
But if you also want to use it with other devices (that most likely won't support 5Ghz), then you'll need a dualband router (that transmits both 2.4 & 5GHz signals).
