Re: European Elections 2017
Still think the EU is going to implode and suck itself into it's own arse. Just not as fast as people assumed or 'hoped'
Greece are on standby, licking their lips at the thought of being up on the big boys table, ready to fund the billions' gap the UK is leaving. They just need to wire some collateral to Nigeria.

Re: European Elections 2017
A Brexit campaign group poured scorn on France and Emmanuel Macron after the centrist newcomer comfortably defeated his far-right opponent Marine Le Pen in Sunday’s presidential election runoff.
The Twitter account of Leave.EU, the pro-Brexit pressure group set up by Nigel Farage for last year’s referendum, tweeted that the French people had once again “rolled over” just as they had done in 1940 – except this time they saved Germany “the bullets and the fuel”. The tweet also included a picture of a newspaper headline from 1940 reporting the surrender of France to the Nazis.
Picking up on the same theme, Farage tweeted: “A giant deceit has been voted for today. Macron will be Juncker’s puppet.”
The former Ukip leader was predicting that Le Pen would come back stronger in five years and eventually win the presidency thanks to a backlash over Macron’s pro-globalisation and pro-EU policies.

Re: European Elections 2017
It has been reported in France that Le Pen was in third place as more "spoiled votes" were cast than votes for her.
As their system is not "a X in a box on a standard voting sheet" but "place the sheet of the person/party you want to vote for in the box, discarding all the others" how could there be spoiled votes?

Re: European Elections 2017
Leave.EU is not xenophobic. Everyone who wants controlled borders is not xenophobic.
Saying Merkel won French Election, is making a statement about the dire policies she has inflicted on the poor German citizens and that Macrons open door policy, similar to Hollande's will just be one of the same. This is not xenophobia.
I really don't get what this fascination with the left is, of allowing uncontrolled migration.

In the second round there are only 2 candidates. Anything else placed in the ballot box is a spoiled vote and does not count although they are recorded.

I didn't say immigration did I? I was referring to the 'France rolled over as they did in 1940' meme they and papa_smurf have been spreading. France lost over 350,000 men in the invasion of France alone. A reminder of their army stayed in Lille during the evacuation to help the allied forces reach and leave Dunkirk helped much of the British army to get back.
The French didn't 'roll over' they suffered heavy casualties. Even then they formed the resistance.
So to mock them for that simply because they didn't vote the way you wanted, especially when it's a party who were formed in part of Vichy collaborators, is rather poor taste and shows a history learned from films more than anything else.

So what has Xenophobia got to do with that ? What is xenophobic about those memes?
Distasteful, disrespectful yes, xenophobic no.
And I have already said I did not care who won, so leave the 'vote the way I wanted' out of it, especially where I am concerned. If anything, and as already stated, Macron winning points to a hard Brexit, which I do want.

I think it falls under prejudice against another nationality but I am not too hung up on the word itself. Just the principle.

Go move there then instead of moaning. Let those of us here who do not want to be associated with corruption, be the ones who are far from bonkers who want to save our country from a bunch of pricks.
|
Millions more people voted for Le Pen (and a far more extreme party) in France than UKIP here and yet they're not bonkers and we are according to some. This mindset is truly bizarre.

Yeah yesterday only 10.5m people in France voted for what he'd call a right wing nutter - that's only 6m more than ever voted for rabid swivel eyed UKIP but there's no problem in France or the EU. It's not happening. It's all good. It's far worse in the UK where UKIP have imploded... Another bizarre mindset.

Beethoven's ode to joy ? Always thought it was a nice little ditty regardless of your views, maybe he was making a point. (Good enough for the Eurovision song contest opening, where doubtless we're already penciled in for 'nul points' ! )
