Youtube slow to start

Over the past few weeks I have noticed that youtube videos seem to take longer and longer to actually start playing.

A sort of preplay buffering without the usual spinning "thingie".

Or is it just me?

Windows 10? Had this exact problem since the last update... Not sure if it's related or solely a YouTube internal issue.

It started about a week ago for me.

Re: Youtube slow to start

Also worth noting Firefox updated recently too, browser wise etc. That's what I generally use.

It slapped me in the face though as follows.

My theory is possibly ad blocking related. So if you could both post back browsers and whether some form of adblock extension is in use.

It's simple thinking really. You load a video that should have had a 4-5 second ad. Ublock or Adblock picks it up, blocks it and rather than see this ad you get a 5 second blank screen in which nothing happens. There's variables of course such as ad length varying and thus a longer pause.

Firefox and Ublock here.

As it's recently, one could support YouTube making changes or the extensions changing thus something that worked before is now broken. Some videos play instantly of course because there's not an ad on every single play. They're every so often unless on sponsored content pages. Adblock detection is on the rise too.

Naturally this all falls to crap if neither of you use an ad blocker.

No issues on Android or TV. Although both of which use dedicated APK's but lack ad blocking.

Re: Youtube slow to start

I dont find them slow to start, but the adverts are becoming very irritating, so I avoid YT as much as possible.

I think you could be right with your theory. My grandson comes around and watches lego scooby doo games ( I dont see the point in watching someone else play a game but thats another story ) and this happens when he plays them. I use chrome with ABP blocker and to test it I`ve turned it off on youtube and they play straightaway now.

Eh i hate to state the obvious but you could use a YouTube Ad Blocker

There are loads about and you get them for Chrome and Firefox.i won't bother posting any links as they are easy to find and use..

They are very effective as well btw.Hope this helps
