Whats the point of officals

Today, l have heard the news, that an appeal by Chelsea over John Terry's red card, has been overturned, so therefore, he has got away with a tackle, that looked by a rugby tackle, and that the opposition player had a clear chance of getting a goal,, What is the point of having rules and officals on the pitch, if players, can bring down players and get away with it - it does not make sense, What does the FA want to do, let the officals stand by the side of the pitch, and let the players get on with it. We football fans, sometimes get on the ref's back, but they are on the pitch, to enforce the rules and laws of football, only for the FA to overrule the ref.

Did you see the tackle? Yes, it was a foul, but he was not the last defender and it was not a certain goal. There were two other defenders tracking back at the time and would have been able to have an influence on whether a shot could have been taken. When the panel sits, there is the chance that they will reject the appeal and then issue and even tougher ban for the player. Chelsea (A team I don't personally like) obviously took the decision, looking at the TV evidence, to appeal. To counter your argument, what is the point in having officials that can't correctly enforce the rules on the pitch. The panel can only overturn a card, so instead of Terry having another yellow card against him, he now has nothing!

I thought he was sent off not for being the last man but for serious foul play (which it was). I was suprised that he was sent off, not because i thought he shouldn't have been but because time and time again John Terry gets away with things like this. He's a dirty player and fully deserved the red card imo. It doesn't suprise me that the FA reversed the decision one bit.

Re: Whats the point of officals

Hi Shadow DemonUK, l could not agree more with you, what the trouble in the Premier League is, that the Ref's are not tough enough, we have players dive in the box, we have players that go down delibrately to get a player sent off, we have players that delibrately elbow other players, and sad to say JT comes within that category, the refs have to be tough enough to deal with the player, and if that ref, sends off ie 'the big money guy' then so be it, but the FA have to be tough enough to uphold the decision of the ref, and as in this case, he did not even get the red reduced down to yellow, it was a straight clearance - ridiculous

agreed, totally. there are quite a few dirty/play-up players in the Chelsea squad; Didier "Ouch... my pretty face" Drogba, Essien, Mikel, Terry, Malouda, even Ballack has his moments. They're the new Man U when it comes to things like this. before you know it, Chelsea will also have 7 minutes time added on if they're losing at Stamford Bridge come 90 minutes!!!

Re: Whats the point of officals

An update on this stupid issue, is that Keith Hackett, has not only dropped the red card against John Terry, BUT dropped referee Mark Halsey to a League TWO game on Saturday, this too me is one rule for one club and one rule for another, even Sir Alex is furious, John Terry needed a caution, for bringing the player down in rugby style, but to get away scot free is a joke.

the ref getting dropped is normal for any decisions that are overruled. it is there to make ref's think twice about doing things that are wrong.

as for the appeal, it said on the bbc that they could only get it overturned if they prooved he shouldnt have any card (yellow or red), how they did that i have no idea!

They did that because it's Chelsea and John Terry inparticular.
