Ivory Coast beat Burkina Faso 2-0 in Malabo to reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Chelsea's Salomon Kalou opened the scoring from close range in the 16th minute and Bakary Kone headed an own goal eight minutes from time.

However, an Ivory Coast side featuring six Premier League players were far from convincing as Burkina Faso enjoyed much of the possession

Tunisia took a major stride towards the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals when beating Niger 2-1 in Libreville.

Issam Jemaa's last-gasp winner was cruel on the Nigeriens, who can no longer reach the last eight.

After Youssef Msakni dribbled his way through for a fine goal after just four minutes, William Tonji Ngounou made history when scoring Niger's first Nations Cup goal.

But the debutants' hearts were broken as Jemaa slammed home at the death.

Gabon snatched a late winner to progress to the Africa Cup of Nations last eight as they beat Morocco 3-2.

Morocco had led 1-0 for much of the game, through captain Houssine Kharjah's first-half opener.

But goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Daniel Cousin put the co-hosts ahead, before Kharjah's penalty looked to have levelled it up.

Bruno Zita Mbanangoye then curled in a free-kick deep into injury time to seal a dramatic win and send Morocco out.

Ghana are on the brink of a place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after a 2-0 win over Mali.

Asamoah Gyan opened the scoring for the Black Stars with a beautifully struck free-kick from just outside the area.

Andre 'Dede' Ayew then wrong-footed the Mali defence before slotting home at the near post, after a clever back-flick from Gyan.

Zambia booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations when beating co-hosts Equatorial Guinea 1-0 to top Group A.

Captain Chris Katongo fired home from the edge of the box after 67 minutes to take control of the group.

The win means the southern Africans may avoid Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals, with the Elephants looking set to win Group B.

The loss was the co-hosts' first of the campaign and under coach Gilson Paulo.

Libya exited the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-1 consolation win over Senegal, who finished without a point.

Ihab Albusaifi struck in each half for the Libyans, the second a wonderful volley and worthy match winner.

Deme Ndiaye scored for Senegal but it would be of little consolation as the Senegalese go home after three losses.

Libya's win marked their first in the Nations Cup in 30 years, as they ended up third in Group A behind Zambia and Equatorial Guinea, with Senegal bottom

Ivory Coast ensured they finished Group B with a perfect record as they beat a disjointed Angola 2-0 in Malabo.

The Angolans' first group defeat means they miss the quarter-finals after Sudan beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in Bata.

Angola gifted an Ivorian reserve side the lead as Emmanuel Eboue pounced from close range after 33 minutes, before Wilfried Bony tapped into an empty net.

Ivory Coast will play Equatorial Guinea in the quarter-finals, while Sudan will face Zambia in Bata on 4 February.

Sudan won their first match at the Africa Cup of Nations for 42 years, beating Burkina Faso 2-1 in Bata to reach the quarter-finals.

They made it to the last eight thanks to Ivory Coast's 2-0 win over Angola in the other Group B match in Malabo.

Mudather El Taib scored in each half for the 1970 African champions, with Issiaka Ouedraogo replying late on.

The Sudanese will play Zambia in the quarter-finals on 4 February, before Ivory Coast take on Equatorial Guinea

Morocco salvaged some pride when beating Niger 1-0 in Libreville in both teams' final Group C game.

Younes Belhanda settled a drab affair when rifling Marouane Chamakh's pass into the roof of the net just 11 minutes from time.

Both sides went into the game looking for their first points after losing their opening matches.

But Niger go home without avoiding defeat at a finals where they were making their tournament debut.

Co-hosts Gabon finished top of Group C at the Africa Cup of Nations after beating Tunisia 1-0 in Franceville.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck his third of the tournament, with some assistance from reserve Tunisia keeper Rami Jeridi.

Captain Daniel Cousin set up Aubameyang, who gently stroked his shot goalwards but was helped by the legs of Jeridi, who dived away from the shot.

Tunisia failed to spark, but go through second in Group C, behind the Panthers.

Both sides started the night already through to the quarter-finals, but Gabon needed at least a draw to ensure they returned to their capital Libreville for their last eight tie.

Mali reached the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after beating Botswana 2-1 in Libreville.

Botswana took the lead through Mogakolodi Ngele's powerful finish past Mali goalkeeper Oumar Sissoko.

Garra Dembele then pounced on a rebound to equalise for Mali, before midfielder Seydou Keita hit the winner with a chipped finish, after a clever one-two.

BBC Sport Ghana sealed their place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 1-1 draw against Guinea in Franceville.

Emmanuel Agyemang Badu put the Black Stars ahead, smashing a fierce volley in from the edge of the area.

Abdoul Razzagui Camara equalised right on half-time, with what looked like a cross from the left-wing sailing right into Ghana's goal.

Guinea chased a winner to no avail, but Mali's 2-1 win over Botswana saw the Malians through and Guinea go out.

The tournament's final pair of group games were finely poised at the beginning of the night, with Ghana, Guinea and Mali all in with a good shout of progressing from Group D.

Zambia became the first team to book their place in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals when beating a disappointing Sudan 3-0 in Bata.

Stoppila Sunzu opened the scoring early on when heading home a free-kick.

The game turned in the Zambians' favour shortly after the hour when Saif Eldin was sent off for fouling Rainford Kalaba in the box.

Chris Katongo converted the resulting spot-kick at the second attempt before James Chamanga wrapped up the win.

Elephants captain Didier Drogba was a central figure in the game, seeing a first-half penalty saved by Danilo.

Drogba celebrated exuberantly when scoring shortly after with a low strike before doubling the lead in the second half with a thumping header.

Yaya Toure rounded off the win when powering home a curling free-kick.

Mali edged through to the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals after beating co-hosts Gabon 5-4 on penalties.

Neither side could break the deadlock in extra-time, and Mali knocked out the co-hosts after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed his spot-kick.

Mali will now meet Ivory Coast in the last four in Libreville on Wednesday

Emmanuel Mayuka came off the bench to score a late goal as Zambia shocked Ghana to earn a place in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

The substitute collected a pass and steered a shot into the bottom corner 12 minutes from the end after Asamoah Gyan missed a first-half penalty.

Gyan's effort was saved when Davies Nkausu fouled Kwadwo Asamoah.

Derek Boateng was sent off late on for Ghana before Prince Tagoe had a goal-bound shot blocked.

Despite the Black Stars' dominance and the penalty miss, Zambia's Chris Katongo had another great opportunity in the first half but fired off-target.

The Chipolopolo have never won the competition but the two-times runners-up have now reached the final of the competition for the first time since 1994

Ivory Coast will meet Zambia in Sunday's Africa Cup of Nations final after beating Mali 1-0 in Libreville.

The Elephants had twice struck the post beforehand, with both Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure powering efforts against the woodwork.

Mali struggled against an Ivorian defence that has yet to concede a goal.

Quite like to see Zambia win on their first return to the scene of their lost team, a moving ceremony was held and I'm sure they'll do their memories proud in the final

Yes it would indeed be a fitting tribute to the 1993 team and their memories.
