Re: Horse Racing

Fame And Glory bounced right back to his best to land the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot, Aidan O'Brien's Gold Cup hero had turned in two dismal displays since his fantastic win at the Royal meeting back in June, but Jamie Spencer was positive from the off and always going well.

Re: Horse Racing

Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon has lost about £50,000 in prize money and been given a five-day ban for flouting the new whip rules. He was punished after he struck his mount six times in the final furlong as he won the £1.3m Champion Stakes on Cirrus Des Aigles at Champions Day and l do think there will have to be a bit of give and take on both sides before everybody is happy with the new whip rules.

Re: Horse Racing

If the BHA are adamant that jockeys must comply with the 5/6 lashes with the whip. Then i think its time they banned the whip altogether.

50 yards from the line in the Derby and you have used up your allocation of 5 strokes.....

At Aintree turning at the Elbow in the Grand National.....

I am only using these as examples as i do have the welfare of horses at heart.

Yes my opinion is we should ban the whip altogether as the horses welfare is the most important thing and l notice in most other equestrian sports they do not use a whip.

THE Professional Jockeys' Association on Wednesday evening released their own proposals for the reform of whip use that would see the financial penalties jockeys have been hit with removed.

PJA chief executive Kevin Darley - along with riders Richard Hughes, Ryan Moore, Frankie Dettori and Tony McCoy, plus trainer John Gosden - met with the BHA on Monday to put forward their own ideas for bringing in a new penalty system for jockeys who break the rules

Re: Horse Racing

JOCKEYS Paul Doe, Greg Fairley, Kirsty Milczarek, Jimmy Quinn and rider-turned-trainer Paul Fitzsimons all face the prospect of being banned from racing following the latest corruption inquiry, which commences at the BHA headquarters in London on Thursday.

Quote:
All five are charged with conspiring to commit a corrupt or fraudulent practice, passing information for reward and deliberately not riding a horse to obtain the best possible placing for personal reward, or in the knowledge it had been laid to lose, an offence for which the penalty is a disqualification of five to 25 years.

Re: Horse Racing

THE BHA review group announced major changes to the controversial whip rules on Friday morning in a last-ditch effort to fend off the threat of strike action by jockeys.

Quote:
Riders will not lose their riding fee if they get banned for a whip offence and will forfeit their prize-money percentage only if receiving a suspension of seven days or more - up from three. Therefore a jockey who uses one more hit than allowed will not lose their prize-money percentage.

Quote:
The five-hits edict in the final furlong/after the last obstacle has been dropped, although the limit on strikes remains seven times in a Flat race, and eight over jumps.

Quote:
This means Christophe Soumillon, who lost his £52,000 share of the prize-money when banned for five days after hitting Cirrus Des Aigles six times in the final furlong when winning the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot last Saturday, will now be paid.

THE Professional Jockeys Association on Friday night moved to quell the possibility of strike action as a significant number of jockeysthreatened to protest next week over the controversial new whip rules.

Quote:
Jockeys are reported to be planning strike action next Friday and Saturday in order to cause maximum disruption to televised meetings. In the interim they plan to hand the BHA an ultimatum.
