Cable modem changed - now my router doesn't work!

Just had my cable modem replaced with another one. Registered with ntl using PIN and direct computer-to-modem connection, then reconnected my router- but it doesn't hand out ip addresses any more! What could I have done wrong?

Re: Cable modem changed - now my router doesn't work!

When you reconnected your router did you remember to reboot the Modem?

You need to turn the modem off, turn the PC off.
Connect All
Leave for 5 minutes.
Turn the modem on and let the lights settle.
Turn the router on and let the lights settle.
Turn the PC on.

Re: Cable modem changed - now my router doesn't work!

I have tried turning the modem off and turning it on. The connection between the router and the modem is fine. But it no longer acts as a DHCP server.

The modem never acted as a dchp server?

Re: Cable modem changed - now my router doesn't work!

I take it that you mean that the Router no longer acts as a DHCP server?

What model is it?

Re: Cable modem changed - now my router doesn't work!

Would that be the Freesco XP7500 Wirless Whizzbang G Router then.

You're not making this easy for us.

Oh, did you set Freesco to spoof the MAC address of the old modem? If you did you will need to redo the operation as the new modem will have a different MAC address.

what information are you getting from ifconfig for the ethernet interface connected to the cable modem?

Did you mean ipconfig, or is ifconfig an ...ix equivalent?

Re: Cable modem changed - now my router doesn't work!

ifconfig results. The router successfully connects to the modem. But the computers plugged into the router are not given local ips any more.

Re: Cable modem changed - now my router doesn't work!

in that case it is a problem with your router config, nothing to do with the modem.

have you visited http://forums.freesco.org ?
