Will we be getting Sky Sports in HD at no extra cost?

Sky are in the process of sending out letters to their Sky Sports customers, who also subscribe to Box Sets, that say that as long as they continue to subscribe to Sky Sports & Box Sets, they will get the Sky Sports channels in HD at no extra cost.

I wonder if this will filter through to VM customers?

Isn't Box Sets the equivalent of XL. Perhaps XL & Sky Sports providers will eventually get them in HD??

Sky stopped charging extra for movies in HD some time ago and this was extended to VM customers.

As HD becomes the norm and channels look to eventually stop dual illuminating SD & HD broadcasts, I think that there's a reasonable chance

What happens if they dont subscribe to Box Sets ?

When I rejoined sky, they forced me to take box sets to get HD sports at all, and then had the nerve to charge for it as well.

I cancelled sports when my offers ran out because of that.

AIUI, without taking Box Sets the offer isn't available.

Am I right in saying that Box Sets is equivalent to the VM XL/Full House packs?

The answer to your question is No.

Having spoken to them today, they will still force you to have Box Sets to get HD, whether you want them or not.

I actually meant on Virgin Media, which is the platform that I have, as opposed to Sky.

The Letters has nothing to do with Sky Sports HD.

An Sky Source has told me "Letters going out recently were for people with Sports 1 or 2 who were getting an offer applied and moved to full sports for same price for a period."

There is a second mailshot to certain customers going out in last few weeks.

Got more info on this and it's just a Sky marketing campaign for certain customers with Sports and Boxsets packages to encourage them not to downgrade the Sports in the future.

There is no planned change to any other Sports customer at this time. IE if you pay £6/£7 extra for Sports HD then you will continue to.

Everyone getting the offer will already have their Sports in HD by now.
