Re: Formula 1 2009 Season

You have to be impressed with Brawn GP, their fastest time (also the fastest overall of the week) was a 7 lap stint. They did a full race stint and were in the 20/21's which is very impressive! I hope they can bring this pace to Melbourne.

To be honest those times mean diddly.

Lewis could have been running max fuel, while button minimum.

Well they kind of do, most teams were running stints and going by those times Brawn GP are just off Ferrari's pace. Hamilton was running a full load but their problem is very real. It seems like they've tried to take off the pressure on the rear tyres due to Hamiltons driving style and caused all sorts of issues with the rear wing. Of corse with Mclaren's resources they should be ok come Melbourne.

A part of me wishes I'd put a bet on BrawnGP winning the constructors championship before testing, as they're now quite short odds!

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season

McLaren have now said that they aren't capable of front-running in the Oz GP. I guess we'll now see what Hamilton is like in a mid-field paced car.

Fillipe Massa and Robert Kubica have both said that BrawnGP are a serious threat! That's some very good going from the BrawnGP team. I just hope they aren't hampered by any technical or engine issues.

BrawnGP won't win the Championship as FIA (Ferrari International Assistance), won't allow it.

Well lets have some perspective here, Honda were designing this car for 2 years and spent masses amounts of money developing it. Brawn basically inherited a car which has had loads of development then strapped in an engine which puts out up to 60hp more than the Honda lump. The car was designed more towards having a less powerful engine and being able to make up time in the corners. Sure they did a great job getting to the test but lets not forget who pumped in all the money to design the car, it certainly wasn't a customer team with a small budget.
Saying that i do hope they can keep up with the big boys when it comes to development during the season, and i hope Rubens and Jenson can do the team justice and prove the car can be so quick during an entire race weekend, not just qually laps.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season

this whole KERS thing is something the FIA doesn't seem to have thought through really. For starters there is a limit on how much enery it can store and use per lap. If they want to use this and promote it's use in the car industry why not make that free so the teams can make this get as much energy as possible then it might start to get smaller and have some use. Also with no in season testing and the devices not all ready how on earth can they test it ?

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season

It looks like they are scrapping the points system. Instead it's now who wins the most races, wins the title. What was wrong with points?

OH GAWD NO...they revamped the points system to get away from that and now they're going in the other direction I can see this having a really bad effect on the sport

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season

They revamped the points system to stop Ferrari running away with the title so early. Now the championship could be over by the end of the German Grand Prix, hopefully in the hands of Button!

This is a really cuckoo move by the FIA, they had a system that worked, but they had a proposal from FOTA that moved 1st to 12 points, and kept everything else, so the value of a victory went up. Now, the first to 9 victories wins the championship, and they'll be counting down how many can win the championship like they were during the 1980s and 1990. Senna only won in 1988 because he scored more wins, Prost would have won it if it was solely on points. Mansell would be champion in 1986 and 1987 if wins were the deciding factor, but it shouldn't be - reliability should win and count too.

I was so looking forward to F1 this season, with teams on an almost equal footing, anybody could win. Now, I'm not so sure, but I'll reserve a final judgement until after the first few races.
