That's been the case for many years. Not the first time it's been brought up either.

The abuse of this system is really quite shocking. You'd have thought such people would have a shred of decency but many clearly do not. A cull is long overdue methinks.

Re: House of Lords is 'London's best day-care centre'

Value for money?

Quote:
Wealthy peers who do almost no work in the House of Lords are claiming up to £40,000 a year from the taxpayer just for turning up, an investigation reveals today.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...g-NOTHING.html

Quote:
Among the highest claimants was Lord Paul, one of Britain's richest men, who received £40,800 despite making no speeches or attending any committees during the latest period for which payment figures are available.
The relevant authorities don't seem to be making much progress in sorting this out for some reason...

Shocking when you consider that taxpayers money instead of feathering the nest of those who simply don't need it could be used for far more important services in this country.

... and these are the people who all too often waffle on about morals, decency, a fairer society etc.

Yep plenty of insincere sound bites like most politicians but then words are cheap as its action that counts at the end of the day.
