Hi all

Does a Mac Book Pro have anti malware as standard as my daughters has got some nasty things on it.

Or do you have to download something : if so any recommendations please ?

Thanks for your time

Regards

Mike

It doesn't however it is pretty hard to infect a Mac or give it a virus.

If you're a VM broadband customer, then F-Secure SAFE that's included as part of the broadband subscription for 12 months does cover Macs.

Isn't that mainly because Apple closely guard the OS API's rather than any intrinsic property of the Mac OS?

All the Windows ones need to be public knowledge for the myriads of SW writers of Windows apps.

The information you need to get code executing on OSX isn't hard to come by. You can knock something up in moments with Xcode. I think the reason why Mac's have traditionally, although they still can, avoided viruses is low market share making it hard to target and security measures in the OSX. Applications tend to be sandboxed a lot more, you don't have permission to access parts of the OS by default and recently Mac's by default do not allow random applications to install themselves without the user turning off a setting.

For most users I would say they should lock it down as you would an iPad.
