V6 remote question
My V6 is being installed on the 7th Feb (ordered week of release! ) however I'm starting to get a bit concerned as to whether it will work with my set up.
I currently have a Tivo in one room and the signal is fed to my TV in another room via HDMI extenders over ethernet with Bidirectional IR Control.
I understand that the V6 remote is now RF so I'm not sure what to do now unless the range of the RF remote is enough to be able to change channels from the room next door

Re: V6 remote question
The V6 will also respond to IR commands as it works with the older TiVo remote.

Cheers that's good to hear
Out of interest any idea what the range of the RF remote would be? would it be feasible to use it from another room if in range?

I'd imagine that the range has to be limited otherwise commands from a remote in one room would affect a second V6 in another. What sort of distance are you talking about?

Hi - I have just had two v6 boxes installed.
Firstly, since they use Bluetooth pairing, the remote is tied to just one box, so you need to be careful about which one you keep in each room. The old TIVO remotes do work though, so if you are upgrading, ask if you can keep them (doesn't seem to be a problem).
Secondly, as a test, I tried to control the box in the living room from the kitchen - this is about 6 meters away and through two internal brick walls - it did work, though obviously it would depend on exactly what was in the walls! I think Bluetooth range is typically 10m, so at 8m you'd be close to the limit.

It's not Bluetooth, it's Zigbee/RF4CE.

It uses the same 2.4GHz band as WiFi and similar power levels. The slow data rate does tend to increase the reliable range somewhat.

Thanks for the info, according to the wiki - "Physical range 10 to 20 meters" and mcgillca's test I should be fine to use the RF remote and dispense with the Bidirectional IR Control altogether. Even better!

Re: V6 remote question
Remember though you can't pair two remotes to the V6 box, so without the IR control you'd have to remember to take your V6 remote with you when you move from one room to the other.
With the IR control you could have an older IR TiVo remote in the other room as a backup

Actually you can - all too easily when installing more than one box at the same time!
