Very naughty (possibly!). Some candidates have more money than sense.

If there are going to be too many by-elections she might as well give in and call that election. It's not as if they won't win them back with a ton more to boot given Labour's current standing.

She can't just call an election, which many seem to have overlooked. Fixed Term Parliament Act, another coalition classic. Labour would need to agree, which I can't see them doing atm. Good old Cleggy and Dave, best double act since Little and Large.

I do wish you'd check your facts before posting as you are wrong .....Again.

There is nothing in the act which states Labour would have to agree, just that the HoC would have to agree by 2/3 majority if it needed to be taken to a vote.

Early elections can be held only:

if a motion for an early general election is agreed either by at least two-thirds of the whole House or without division; or
if a motion of no confidence is passed and no alternative government is confirmed by the Commons within 14 days.

How would they get the 2/3 majority without labour?

Re: Tory election spending claims: 12 police forces pass files to CPS

The electoral commission has fined them £70,000 and refers more stuff to the police.

To avoid the 2/3 majority would require the agreement of all parties not just Labour although that would give them it.

But:-

There are enough disaffected Labour MP's who, in the event of a vote would risk losing an election now just to get rid of Corbyn, otherwise they're stuck with him for another few years. Which would give it without agreement with another party.

I don't expect either scenario though as May is rightly concentrating on Brexit. Anything else is merely a distraction.

If the "overspend" got them more seats than they would have had, £70k is peanuts.

Same could be held true for the other parties...

https://www.theguardian.com/politics...g-for-ed-stone

https://www.theguardian.com/politics...ction-spending

If they have broken the law, they should be prosecuted, and the appropriate electoral actions taken (for all the parties).

70k is the fine, not the overspend.
