Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

Yup. Bring on the Portsmouth! I'll be at that game woop.

Important not to get carried away though. One game is one game and Arsenal are prone to amazing performances. The trick is the consistency to keep it up. If we can do that then a top 4 spot will be no trouble. We know the team is capable, it's just can they avoid the runs of poor performances that cost us the lead a couple of seasons ago and stopped us even being a danger last year. This wasn't a small team at home though, this was Everton away. So could not have hoped for a better start.

You are joking, Robson, Pallister, Keane all broke British transfer records before winning anything, Liverpool wasted millions under Souness achieving nothing and the treble winning side probably cost more to assemble than most at the time what with Stam, Yorke, Berg and Cole being in it.

Ok Fair enough. I still think it is possible to be a success without excessive spending and I also think it's an unsustainable way to run a club.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

To make matters worse = again, Chelsea are preparing a bid for a foriegn player in the region of £42 MILLION, when will someone from the authories step in and stop stupid bids of this figure, it is killing the game of football, amd Chelsea are as much blame than any other club.

I don`t agree with you there 1 iota, there is no chance City would have become a World XI so soon due to the fact that they haven`t won a sausage since before i was born. With the vast sums of money the elite footballers earn they wan`t to sign for a club which at least has shown the potential to win trophy`s, City haven`t done that yet.
Maybe in a couple of years, if (and that`s a big IF) we are up there challenging for honours a better stamp of player is more likely to sign.

Like Arsharvin, quality player btw, he made the choice to sign for Arsenal because he thought he could win something there (european cup maybe). Allthough he could be an exception to the norm (i.e. money mad) as he does seem very `sporting`

Nice result for you today as well, Goodison is no easy place to go to...

Any idea who? I`m sure i read the other day that Pato was definately staying at A.C. Milan, though that probably means he`s on his way out..

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

6-1 to Arsenal away at Everton. I've not seen a scoreline like that for the Gunners in a long time. To be fair, they needed some success after the average season they had last year.

Chelsea are poised for a £42m bid for Atletico Madrid's Argentine striker Sergio Aguero.

You're not still banging on about how you think United bought success? Don't we prove you wrong around this time every year?

No, unless your going to say United haven't spent hundreds of millions on players and broken the transfer record loads of times, fact is City are doing what Chelsea did in playing catch up and pretty soon your exclusive little champions league gang are going to be shaken up and I for one think the league can only benefit from it.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

United have spent money on successful players, they've also spent money on players who turned out to be duds. Not one collection of purchases (such as when Chelsea were bought or as Man City have done this summer) have directly led to success. What's your point?

It's pretty much the same thing, the only one of the "big five" that has had success without crass spending are Arsenal and I hope they get rewarded with a title for it come the end of the season, imo that would be the biggest achievement of any league winner.

Still can't believe Newcastle won 3-0 yesterday and Amoeba scored a hat-trick.

He always was a second class player so maybe this division will suit him

Well quite a result from Spurs and an unconvincing game from Liverpool. Liverpool are going to have to do much better to challenge for the title..
