Bring back Davros, RTD has said he doesn't believe him to have perished in the crucible.

Re: Doctor Who : Season 7

Crikey no, Davros was the worst thing to have happened to the Daleks - as soon as he was on the scene the Daleks were relegated to the status of henchmen while lazy scriptwriters gave all the best dialogue to Davros instead.

The new series Daleks consistently get a far greater range of dramatic situations than the classic ones ever did.

Re: Doctor Who : Season 7

Does anyone here think the Daleks can ever work again as an effective enemy in the new Doctor Who series? Maybe people think they do work, it's not been my impression, and other enemies seem to be remembered more such as the Weeping Angels or the 'evil' on the impossible planet.

The Daleks don't look especially scary, they never seem to act scary, the fact they've been beaten a gazillon times also takes away the sense of danger or interest for me.

It's the same as the Borg on Star Trek and the Goa'uld in Stargate - they started off as the 'Big Bad' but by the end could be beaten easily by the hero cast.

I think maybe it's the same reason i LOVE the original Terminator, and actually resent what they did with the sequels.

To quote Kyle Reese..
Quote:
"Listen, and understand. That Terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, remorse or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."
In order to sell it to today's children and facilitate an easier victory for the good guys, the threat needed to be dumbed down to the point where it became a caricature trading more on it's reputation, than it's designed capability.

Seriously. every time Rose, Captain Jack or River Song shows up with a BFG and simply destroys one, it diminishes any credibility the Daleks had with the audience.

They need to stop worrying if it'll upset "the little darlings" and return the show to the dark side.. Get the children hiding behind their settees again, like they used to.

Re: Doctor Who : Season 7

My kids watch from around the living room door - those that watch it at all, that is. My middle one complains if she can even hear it from the other room. Doctor Who is definitely not misfiring when it comes to the scare factor.

Now that was scary, it scared me that one.

Unlike Episode 3 of this new series, which is another that I didn't get to the end of as I turned off after 30 odd mins and went to bed, so uninterested was I in how it would end.

I know this sounds silly, but I actually think that was one of the scariest stories I've ever seen on TV or film.

Not because it does anything violent or gory (as films tend to) but it was shown clearly (by both the way the kid acted, and the way the actors around him acted) that something was very wrong, without it being clear (until the end) what was wrong.

Another scary story was Silence in the Library, not to mention Blink.

Apparently, Saturday's episode is the start of a plotline, the climax of which will see the Ponds leaving the series.

Which was also a Stephen Moffatt episode. . I think the man who gave us the Weeping Angels "gets" behind-the-sofa Who better than almost anyone.

Re: Doctor Who : Season 7

Well thus far this season I've not felt the need to turn it off

I am looking forward to the Ponds departing as I'm sure it'll be done in an interesting way.

I'd better spoiler this I suppose.

Spoiler:
Not much of a plot-line then as it's only two weeks long (The Ponds leave in Ep 5
