Re: Cricket

Here we go then, "The Cricket World Cup"

Quote:
The opening ceremony of the ninth Cricket World Cup has begun at the Trelawny Stadium in Jamaica.

West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers was chosen to officially open the tournament, which is being staged in the Caribbean for the first time. The ceremony began at 2215 GMT, and features more than 2,000 singers, dancers and other performers who have been rehearsing for three months.
The Aussies are favourites of course, but I have a feeling the dark horses might be Sri lanka.

I have to say I am loving watching the lesser nations play - like Bermuda - lol, a few of them look like 'when I'm not on the field I'll be running the refreshment stall' -bless em! So I'm cheering them on, cos they look like 'normal' people, and they are just having fun.

I think his Kerry Packer involvement and the rebel South Africa tour put paid to that at the time.

Some one said in an interview that he was top of the list to replace Fletcher if he got sacked after the World Cup, it's a strange old World, the pressure of international cricket obviously played a huge part in his premature demise, however would he have wanted it any other way, what good is life without doing the things you love? Tragedy like this put's things in perspective, cricket is only a game and in the big scheme of things are Fred the Ped's antics really that bad?

Placed against Woolmer's death no, but Fred the Ped should leave his boozy antics out until after the competition is over.
I get the feeling that some players treat this tournament as though they are on holiday.

You know what if I had paid thousands to go over and watch the NZ game, I think I'd have been bloody annoyed, however to me his antics should have come second, today should of been about sporting epitaphs not about the England vice captain drunkenly failing to skipper a pedalo

The death of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer is being treated as suspicious, a Jamaican police spokesman has said.
Mark Shields said there was sufficient information to continue a full investigation into the death.
