Re: Horse Racing

Camelot team have ground concerns.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Fri

Quote:
Ground conditions at Newmarket could be a question mark for the hugely talented Camelot in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old aims to become the first son of Montjeu to win the Rowley Mile Classic, and though Montjeu's progeny generally act well with cut in the ground, Camelot showed a brilliant turn of foot on a sound surface to run away with last season's Racing Post Trophy.

Big-race rider Joseph O'Brien told At The Races: "He has a high cruising speed and ticks the right boxes. I'd be hoping he'd run a nice race. I have to have a question mark over the ground. He's a very good moving horse and won both starts last year on good ground."
Oxx happy with Guineas hope Born.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Fri

Quote:
Born To Sea has plenty to live up to as a half-brother to Sea The Stars, but he is pleasing his trainer John Oxx ahead of a tilt at the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday.

The handler has been happy with how his colt has gone at home in recent weeks and he does not expect the ground conditions to cause too many problems.

"The weather hasn't hindered us at all. The horse has had a good preparation and he hasn't missed any work," said Oxx.

Offer 'must improve' - Charlton.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...arlton&day=Sat

Quote:
Roger Charlton admits Top Offer will need to show "considerable" improvement if he is to win the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The once-raced colt was an impressive winner of a Newbury maiden last season, but missed his intended trial in the Greenham Stakes due to very soft ground, and the trainer still harbours doubts about his ability to be seen at his best in those conditions.

"Top Offer has been our big hope since last August and finally we are nearly there. He is a wonderful looking colt with great presence and an easy action that may not be suited by the soft ground," said the Beckhampton handler.
Harbour on road to recovery.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Harbour Watch will soon step up his recovery from injury as his connections dream of what might have been in the Qipco 2000 Guineas.

The Richard Hannon-trained colt was unbeaten in three juvenile starts and was towards the forefront of the Guineas market before a setback ruled him out of the Rowley Mile Classic.

David Redvers, racing manager for part-owners Qatar Bloodstock, feels the three-year-old would have taken a lot of beating had he lined up.
Light leads Godolphin charge.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Godolphin landed last year's Qipco 1000 Guineas with Blue Bunting and have two strings to their bow as they bid to follow up on Sunday.

Both Lyric Of Light and Discourse put unbeaten records on the line at Newmarket for trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni.

Frankie Dettori rides Fillies' Mile heroine Lyric Of Light, and Al Zarooni said: "She won a Group One last year and proved she's a nice filly. She worked on the Rowley Mile (at the Craven meeting) and she worked very nicely."

Camelot lands 2000 Guineas glory.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Hot favourite Camelot landed the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket for the Aidan O'Brien team with a late flourish.

Joseph O'Brien held him up towards the rear of the main group and produced him with a charge through the final furlong.

Overseas raider French Fifteen made the best of his way home, but Camelot (15-8 favourite) cut him down and swept to victory by a neck.

Well the king has been crowned but only just but congratulations to AO on winning his 6th 2000 Guineas.

Doyle in Al Kazeem romp.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Roger Charlton's Al Kazeem sprung a minor surprise when claiming some prize scalps in the Qatar Bloodstock Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket.

Ridden by James Doyle, who flies to Hong Kong straight after the 2000 Guineas to partner Cityscape in the BMW Champions Mile, the four-year-old stretched away to win the Group Two contest in tremendous style.

The 15-2 chance romped clear to score by four and a half lengths from Quest For Peace, with Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden staying on for third, a length and a quarter further back.

Frankel dazzles in workout.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...news&sub=&day=

Quote:
Frankel confirmed his well-being with a superb racecourse gallop at Newmarket and is on course for his return to action in the JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 19.

Sir Henry Cecil's colt's future had been in jeopardy after he suffered a leg injury on April 11, but he received the all-clear to race on following a positive scan a week later, and moved up the gears in his preparation for his comeback
Noble could get Derby mission.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...feed&sub=&day=

Quote:
Frankel's full-brother Noble Mission did his Classic prospects no harm with a gutsy display to take the Qatar Racing Newmarket Stakes at Newmarket.

Tom Queally had nowhere to go at one stage on the hooded 7-4 favourite in what developed into a tactical five-horse affair.

Despite being temporarily trapped in a pocket, the Sir Henry Cecil-trained colt quickened eyecatchingly when the gap appeared and got up to defeat Mariner's Cross by a neck.
I'll have another Derby hero.

Quote:
I'll Have Another swooped late down the Churchill Downs stretch to win a thrilling renewal of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday night.

The strongly-fancied Bodemeister attempted to make virtually all in the 138th running of the 'Run for the Roses', setting the five fastest splits in Derby history, and still held a healthy lead entering the stretch.

Just as he looked like hanging on, the Doug O'Neill-trained I'll Have Another got to Bob Baffert's charge in the last 100 yards.

In winning, the Flower Alley colt became the first to win from stall 19, and was a maiden Derby victory for O'Neill - and a first on his first ride in the race for jockey Mario Guttierez. Dullahan was third
Improving Mayson takes the palace.

http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/n...6.html&BID=465

Quote:
Richard Fahey's progressive Mayson won the Pearl Bloodstock Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.

An impressive winner of the Abernant Stakes on his seasonal reappearance over six furlongs at this track, the four year old was sent off a well backed favourite as a result.

His supporters never had a moment's cause for concern in this Group Three contest despite dropping back a furlong in trip.

The Invincible Spirit colt saw enough daylight racing on the outside of the 16 strong field but in the middle of the track and could always be seen moving well just in behind the pace.

He picked up well when asked and ran on strongly for pressure to record a first success at this level, readily holding the challenge of the easy to back Definightly and Elusivity by three parts of a length and a head.
Derby entry Kesampour still unbeaten.

Homecoming crowned Guineas queen.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:
Aidan O'Brien became the first trainer since 1942 to claim the 1000 and 2000 Guineas in the same season on two occasions as Homecoming Queen ran out a surprise winner of the fillies' Classic 24 hours after Camelot's triumph.

The legendary Fred Darling was the last man to achieve the feat that O'Brien first managed in 2005 with Virginia Waters and Footstepsinthesand.

That O'Brien won the Qipco 1000 Guineas was no shock, but he was expected to do it with the 13-8 favourite Maybe, ridden, like Camelot, by his son Joseph, and not 25-1 shot Homecoming Queen, the mount of Ryan Moore.
Gosden happy with Classic duo.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:
John Gosden was delighted with his Qipco 1000 Guineas fillies Starscope and The Fugue after they finished second and fourth in the Rowley Mile Classic.

Stable jockey William Buick was on board 22-1 shot The Fugue, but it was her 33-1 stable companion Starscope who performed best under Jimmy Fortune, finishing a length in front of favourite Maybe without ever threatening to get near the runaway winner Homecoming Queen.

"I was thrilled with both my fillies, who will go further in time and will want a longer trip," said the Newmarket handler.
Kailani books Oaks ticket.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:
Kailani showed she has inherited plenty of her mother's ability when waltzing away with the Tweenhills Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket.

A daughter of 1000 Guineas and Oaks heroine Kazzia, she had won on her only previous start at Yarmouth last year.

Settled in the rear by Mickael Barzalona, Kailani put the race to bed some way out. The 6-1 shot powered seven lengths clear of Hazel Lavery to give Godolphin something to cheer on Guineas weekend.
Izzi on top in Dahlia.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:
Last year's Oaks third Izzi Top began her four-year-old career in the best possible way with a relatively straightforward victory in the Qatar Bloodstock Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket.

Sent off the 3-1 second favourite behind Sir Henry Cecil's Group One winner Timepiece, she was always travelling nicely for William Buick.

Tom Queally was soon sending out distress signals on Timepiece and Izzi Top was not too hard pressed to beat Captivator by a length and a quarter.

Allied powers to French success.

Allied Powers claimed victory for Michael Bell in the Prix d'Hedouville at Longchamp.

The seven-year-old was always in the first three in the Group Three event, but Ioritz Mendizabal was having to ask for an extra effort as the field straightened up for home.

Favourite Solemia looked full of running, but Olivier Peslier found himself caught on the inside of Allied Powers with nowhere to go and though he tried to switch on to the rail, again no gap appeared, and he had to settle for third. Allied Powers edged out Molly Malone at the line.

Bell said: "I'm delighted. He won this race in 2010, so it's nice to see him go back and do it again.
Starspangled could return to track.

Multiple Group One-winning sprinter Starspangledbanner could be set for a surprise return to training due to fertility problems at stud.

The six-year-old won twice at the highest level in his native Australia and also produced his best in the northern hemisphere after joining Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle, winning the Golden Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup in 2010.

He was retired at the end of that season to join the Coolmore Stud roster and his first crop of foals hit the ground this spring.

Wayne Rooney gets his first taste of racehorse ownership on Wednesday as Pippy makes his racecourse debut at Chester.

The England international striker and his wife, Coleen, purchased three horses to be trained by Tom Dascombe, who is based at Manor House Stables in Cheshire, a yard part-owned by Rooney's Manchester United colleague Michael Owen.

Pippy, a juvenile colt by Exceed And Excel, runs in the Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes, this year sponsored by Manor House Stables.

"Pippy is fine. He's quite a nice little horse, but we're obviously throwing him in at the deep end," said Dascombe.

"We couldn't be sure Pippy would get in the maiden later in the week so we'll try him in the Lily Agnes and see what happens.

The Group Three contest may have lost some of its lustre with the late absence of Bonfire, but Joseph O'Brien made it a true test over the extended mile and a quarter and gradually ran his three rivals ragged to win in tremendous style.

Uriah Heep was the first beaten with half a mile to run, but no horse got close enough to mount a challenge as the 11-10 favourite galloped all the way to the line to win by 11 lengths. Oxford Charley was second and Kingsdesire third.

Australian sprinter Black Caviar stretched her unbeaten run to 21 with an effortless victory in the Group One Goodwood at Morphettville.

Having her final run before flying over to England for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, Peter Moody's superstar never came off the bridle, and as there was no pace on early, Luke Nolen hit the front at his leisure before turning into the straight.

With connections keen not to ask too much of her with her biggest assignment to date looming large, Nolen kept a tight hold of her head and while the winning distance of just over a length was not as far as her fans have become accustomed to, there was never a worry.

Will Royal Ascot be the crowning of this Australian champion or is she over-rated?.

Chacha quicksteps to victory.

Chachamaidee produced a memorable turn of foot to come from almost last to first in the home straight to land the Betfred Mobile Chartwell Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield.

The Sir Henry Cecil-trained five-year-old hesitated after the stalls opened and was one from last making the turn into the short home straight in the Group Three contest

Frankel thrills in Newmarket work.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sun

Quote:
Frankel completed his preparation for the JLT Lockinge Stakes with a workout on grass in Newmarket that left trainer Sir Henry Cecil "delighted" with his unbeaten champion.

Cecil resisted the temptation to work Khalid Abdullah's colt round the bend where he sustained the minor leg injury that put his training schedule back, and caused connections a wait of several anxious days for the result of a scan which revealed no damage to his tendon.
Vow impressive in Oaks trial.

Quote:
Vow advertised her Classic credentials with an impressive victory in the Betfred 'The Bonus King' Oaks Trial Stakes at Lingfield.

Sent off the 11-10 favourite after winning on her debut at Newbury last month, the William Haggas-trained daughter of Motivator was well placed throughout the Listed event, bowling along on the heels of leader Estrela.

The pair kicked clear at the entrance to the straight and though Vow showed signs of greenness as she veered right then left when hitting the front, she was straightened up by Johnny Murtagh and had no trouble holding the late thrust of Colima by three and a quarter lengths.
Main keeps up winning sequence.

Quote:
Main Sequence was ticketed for the Investec Derby after justifying a jump up in class when extending his unbeaten run to four with a cosy success in the Betfred Derby Trial at Lingfield.

The David Lanigan-trained colt (3-1) was coming off success in a handicap at the Newmarket Craven meeting, but despite flashing his tail proved too determined for the 5-4 favourite Shantaram, wining with something in hand by three-quarters of a length under Ted Durcan.

There was a big gap to the third Cavaleiro and connections are in principle keen to go on to Epsom with their son of Aldebaran, who was trimmed to 16-1 from 25s for the Investec Derby by Ladbrokes.
Ellison goes Global at Ascot.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...s&sub=&day=Sun

Quote:
Brian Ellison has had his horses in cracking form through the spring and the Malton trainer landed another big prize as Global Village claimed the Betfred Victoria Cup at Ascot.

Not surprisingly, the 24-runner field split into two groups through the early stages, and the far side was to prove the place to be in the richly endowed seven-furlong contest.

Dropped out early on, the Tadhg O'Shea-ridden Global Village (9-1) could be spotted making definite progress a furlong and a half from home and he saw his race out well to beat Bonnie Brae by three-quarters of a length. King Of Jazz was another length and a quarter away in third, with Brae Hill fourth.

The five-year-old has won five Group One contests in four different countries and was last seen landing the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup in Japan for the second time in November.

Elie Lellouche's Beauty Parlour maintained her unbeaten record with a stylish success in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, the French 1000 Guineas.

Settled in sixth place by Christophe Soumillon, the daughter of Deep Impact made smooth progress to hit the front a furlong and a half out and was always holding the Aidan O'Brien-trained Up, who ran a big race in second

Light on top in Trial battle.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...s&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:
Light Heavy continued his progressive profile for Jim Bolger with an ultra-game performance in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown.

Tower Rock, the apparent pacemaker for better-fancied Aidan O'Brien-trained stablemate and Breeders' Cup winner Wrote, set off in front, with Kevin Manning sitting in second on the eventual winner.

Light Heavy joined issue at the two-furlong pole with Wrote, the 8-13 favourite, struggling, and settled down for a titanic tussle as Tower Rock refused to give in. Although not the biggest, Light Heavy (15-8) certainly has the right attitude and the son of Teofilo answered every call before prevailing by a neck.
No place like home for Famous.

It was back to business as usual for Famous Name as he recorded a straightforward success in the Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown.

Dermot Weld's prolific seven-year-old has a tremendous record at the Foxrock track, with 11 wins there now, but was last seen stuck in the mud in the bet365 Mile at Sandown.

Sent off the 1-5 favourite, the Khalid Abdullah-owned entire was bagging his ninth Group Three victory and a hat-trick of Amethyst triumphs.

Yellow Rosebud, who had high-class form as a juvenile, took the Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday.

Runner-up to Maybe in the Debutante Stakes at the Curragh last season, the filly (13-2) collared Duntle coming down the straight and ran on strongly to hold the late-charging Devotion by a length.
