Re: Murdoch: how I changed football

How many clubs actually use local players from round the area of the club? Let's take Boro for example coz it's a bit easier for me that way. We have players like Downing, Woodgate, Davies, Cattermole, McMahon, Morrison and Taylor. That is just some of the Boro team, all born locally. If more teams played local players or just English players, then everyone has the chance to win really.

I don't know what that has to do with this thread, anyway yes Murdoch has changed football, because of his sports channels, people get to sit at home and watch football which is a good and bad thing. Just now stadiums are always more or less empty compared to what they used to be? I dunno...

Not everyone can afford £30 for 90 minutes of entertainment.
And that, just about sums it up, as far as I'm concerned.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened , if Murdoch had been successful in his takeover bid for Man Utd, at least the club would be in the black, but anyway I am going slightly

Which brings me to ask, "Do you think the home nation teams have suffered because of the import of foreign players to clubs" ?

In some ways yes. Less players come through the academy to the first team now because most managers just go for foreign players.
