Re: D-link Router problems

OK - it's prolly the Default Gateway thats stopping you browsing.
That's usually supplied by the router when you get an IP address.
Does the router have a factory reset button? I would have expected it to work out of the box and it is prolly easier to reset than work through the menus.

Re: D-link Router problems

No it doesn't have a reset button...so if i had a brand new one straight out the box, I'd probably have no trouble? No idea how to reset router....

Oh actually after having a closer look it does have one....I'll try that, thanks.

Re: D-link Router problems

Ok - what model DLink router is it?

Can you post a screenshot of the main admin page from the router?

Re: D-link Router problems

What do you mean by main admin page, I'm confused.

I have tried running the install cd again that came with the router, I get two error messages saying 'please start over WAN settings' and another one saying something about problems with internet connection, contact ISP.

But as I can access through a cable, I can't see how there's a problem with ISP.

Re: D-link Router problems

Mabby, The main admin page is reached by browsing to
http://192.168.0.1
According to this Dlink page, the default user name / pwd are 'admin' & blank pwd.
Try following the instructions on this page to see if you can get a connection.
You will need to have a connection to the router to access this page.
If still no luck, there are a couple of other things to test -
In the router admin web page, click on "status" and write down the contents - in particular does it show a WAN address beginning 82.x.x.x.

Re: D-link Router problems

Attempted to follow the steps you posted. Slight problem, if I'm connected to the Internet via a cable, once I switch on the wifi to connect to the router, I cannot access the internet. Also the wifi connection comes up with little or no connection.

So I'm unable to be connected wirelessly to the router and access the internet....so unable to access the admin page...

Re: D-link Router problems

You don't have to connect wirelessly to access the admin page. Just connect with the ethernet cable.

Re: D-link Router problems

Ah - now were getting somewhere!
The problem lies in
Quote:
Connection PPPoE Disconnected.
For NTL it should be dynamic IP.
Go back to the router's web page and follow

Then power cycle modem and router again (leaving JUST the ethernet between modem and router) and that 'should' get you a valid NTL address!
