Just seen video of Bianchis crash. He was lucky he wasn't decapitated, the fact he's alive at all is nothing short of a miracle.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
No, TV generally never show the footage, or if they have shown it once will not show it again. When Eduardo had his leg broken against Birmingham, they showed no replays of it on Match of the Day, or when discussing it after.

Mail have a video on their site. Had a look, Bianchi was damn lucky not to have his head taken off the speed he went into that JCB.
From what has been said, it seems that Massa and a few other drivers wanted the race postponed because of the typhoon on the way but Mercedes and Red Bull vetoed that. If true, then I imagine they must be feeling awful now.

It's not for MAMG or RBR to veto a decision to abandon the race - that simply hasn't happened. They might have been happy to continue, they might have even voiced that, but that's not the same thing.
And Massa's protests must be taken in the context of the fact that he was until Sunday the most recent high profile serious casualty, imo. Nobody else seems to have had a problem with carrying on.
What did happen was before the race the FIA wanted to move the race to an earlier time but the race organisers (Honda) refused on three occasions. But the race would have been wet whenever it was run, and the severity of the crash was a result of many other factors combined, including the bad light according to Adrian Sutil. The real question is whether or not a safety car should have been deployed to assist with the recovery of Sutil's Sauber. But there was a spin under an earlier safety car so it's hard to argue that this crash was completely preventable.

Going forward I think the technology exists to implement pit lane speed limiting near to an incident, meaning we wouldn't need safety cars and drivers wouldn't lose or gain advantages as they do currently when they are deployed. I don't follow Endurance racing but apparently they have slow zones when they have marshalls on track.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
Just been watching practise from Sochi, Russia.
The new circuit is very futuristic with some fantastic backdrops of the surroundings.
The design is going to catch some drivers out, in places the Tecpro barriers are very close to the track with not much room for error.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
And apparently Marussia are only running one car. Will have to have a look at SKY to watch highlights.

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season
One of the best moments of this season was Bianchi's opportunistic points at Monaco. Those points have Marussia ahead of Caterham and Sauber in the WCC - a position that will be massive for the team if they are to maintain it. They are only running one car in Sochi, and will have a race ready car in Bianchi's side of the garage, in tribute to him. Which is a lovely gesture. I sincerely hope they don't come to regret the gesture, and that the decision to run only one car leaves them unable to defend their position currently based on Bianchi's 2 points. Doing everything possible to ensure that his points still had value would have felt to me like a better tribute, personally.

Agree. Is there any further news on him? Last I heard he was not breathing on his own. I hope he survives.

If he survives, I fear he will be badly brain damaged.
But, the brain is an amazing thing so you never know.
