Slightly OT, but I tried and left Virgin within 28 days because the latency and jitter was terrible. Now: Be with fastpath. 5ms to BBC.

You have to enable "Respond to Ping on WAN Port" on your router.

Thanks Aaron
it was actually ticked already but still didn't work?
A Google search later and someone had a similar problem, with a solution.
Guess what..a flaky superhub is the problem.
(quote)
I needed ping on wan port in order to use the Thinkbroadband Broadband Quality Monitor.
However I did some further investigation and have discovered this apparent bug is related to Port Forwarding on the Superhub.
Setting up a single Port Forwarding rule using protocol both causes the Superhub to stop responding to pings on the wan port. If I set up two separate rules (i.e. UDP and TCP) on the same port (say 5775) ping appears to work fine as does the forwarding.
So I currently have a satisfactory work around.
This bug should be easy to replicate and you may want to pass on this info to Netgear or who ever does your Superhub firmware.
I had a port forwarded using both protocol..changed it and will see how it goes.

Ah well...
Still constant packet loss as above DESPITE making sure my Superhub responded to Ping on WAN port.
Any ideas?

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)
Ignore the red at the start and just after 12pm, I know what caused them (Ping and DPI settings on router)
Between 12 and 8 all that was plugged in was the modem and the router nothing was connected to the router shouldn't it be better than this?
The past week I've had intermittent connection and total loss for a couple of hours per day is this graph anything to do with that?
I've just received a new router DIR 615 is this better than the Netgear WNR2000?

Quite possibly because he isnt on the Superhub. Probably the only guy who is on a decent modem on 100meg.

I think you should get interleaving put back on, that packet loss is 24/7
