He is, I don't see who else we have in defensive midfield who is better? He's playing first choice for the side top of the league.

There is always the odd exception - Schmeichel was another. Dino Zoff and Andoni Zubizaretta were also captains, I think Casillas captains Spain, it's just not ideal. Our keeper is our vice-captain as well (Lee Camp).

Well if its the Gareth Barry who played against Germany when we lost 4-1 he obviously had no clue how to play the defensive midfielder role.

Rinat Dasaev, Lev Yashin, Dmitri Kharin, Oliver Kahn?
Being team captain isn't limited to what happens on the pitch. Any team who only has one organiser on the park isn't going to win very much.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
England squad:
Goalkeepers
Scott Carson (Bursapor), Joe Hart (Manchester City), David Stockdale (Ipswich Town - loan from Fulham)
Defenders
Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Bolton Wanderers), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), John Terry (Chelsea), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)
Midfielders
Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
Forwards
Gabby Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United), Bobby Zamora (Fulham)
Who out of those - assuming it will not be Terry - would make a decent captain?

Re: Football Season 2011/12
It would be Lampard.
Its strange Micah Richards isn't in the squad, he's been playing well recently, better than Glen Johnson.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
not a great line up up front. Not a fan of Wellbeck and to be honest all the others listed are a bit hit and miss as well.
I do wonder where our next batch of strikers will come from

However a good season could fix this. If the impossible happens and Newcastle make it into Europe I feel we may re-generate interest in buying the club. At the minute we can only hope most major sponsors have the same stance Adidas did and refuse to touch it.

Next time you get a dug-out shot at St James' Sports Direct whatever stadium, have a look at the seats. Not usually for a premiership club, all the dug-out seats are Recaro Speed seats (ones found in Honda Civic Type-R, out of interest). They're done out in club colours, again not usual for a football team.
Now where Newcastle's differ slightly is that during the summer they wanted the seats changed a little. Once again, clubs often make improvements and amendments to the stadium during the off-season but this time Ashley wanted a dramatic change. He wanted us to replace all the seats with new ones and retrim them in club colours but with the SportsDirect.com logo below the club's crest. The idea being of course that when you get a dug-out shot, behind the players you'll see the website advertised.
Only thing is, we did the job and sent the seats up to SJ'sP but Mike Ashley wasn't happy. He felt the club logo was to distracting from the website logo so he returned the seats to us to have them retrimmed again (remember this is top-grade leather and we're talking 12-14 seats) but with the club crest removed and the SportsDirect.com made bigger.
OK it's his club and he can spend whatever he wants (I'm not going to say how much it cost but we're talking 5 figures) on promoting his other business venture but that feels like such a sell-out.
