WRT54GS and NTL DHCP Problem.....

Hi,

I am running a WRT54GS on my ntl connection. I am having some strange problems!

I am running the sveasoft firmware build for it, and I am having real trouble with DHCP - I was wondering if anyone else has seen the problem or has a fix?????

Here goes:

I connect my router to the cable modem, and it will not get an IP address. I have tried cloning PC mac address etc with no success.....

Then, if I connect my PC to the cable modem, it gets an IP address. If I then connect the router to the cablee modem with the MAC address of my PC configured on its WAN interface it can then get an IP.

Everything then works, right up until my IP address changes.... (been ok for 6 months, or just 2 days).

Then, I can no longer get an IP on my router. If I connect the PC, and then the router again, all is OK!

Just wondering if the router is sending out a DHCP renew rather than discover.....

Any ideas?

Paul.

Re: WRT54GS and NTL DHCP Problem.....

Can't really help with the fix for the problem with Sveasoft, but would recommend a different third party firmware instead. Try http://www.dd-wrt.com or http://forum.bsr-clan.de/forum15.html for more information.

I did look at the SveaSoft firmware a long time ago, but the amount of controversy that popped up on the web around it (and the guy running it) put me off. Since then I've been using DD-WRT on my WRT54G for a home LAN with QoS to manage VOIP, UseNet and P2P downloads without any problems.
