Port forwarding problem

I'm trying to set-up realVNC on my PC at home so I can access outlook and stuff when I'm away but I can't seem to get the client to connect properly.

It connects properly and runs if I use the local IP of my computer but not if I use the external IP of my network.

I've setup port forwarding for ports 5500 5800 and 5900 on my router. I;ve also set up a no-ip account so I can just type that into the browser/client prog and get to my computer.

Is there anything else I need to do 'cos it's still not working.

are you running the server program on the pc your connection too?

Next set the no-ip to forward as host to your public ip.

what errors do you get?

if you log in to msn might be able to help a bit more.

Yep

I get a "no page can be displayed" if I try to use java viewer on port 5800

I get "connection refused (error 10061)" if I try to use the normal viewer

Yep, and 5500 and 5800

have you tried your external ip not the no ip one?

Yep, get the same result! I'm guessing it must be port forwarding as it works if I use the 192.168.1.3 IP but not my external one.

if your about later dude I can log into msn and give yo a hand with this, I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it. I use vnc as well and found it a bit of a pai to set up and have not got the java viewer to work yet. The normal viewer works great.

In the Lan clients settings on your router 1st delete your previous rules and set-up 2 advanced rules in the user section.

rule name : vnc1
protocol : tcp
port start : 5900
port end : 5900
Port map : 1000

rule name : vnc2
protocol : udp
port start : 5900
port end : 5900
Port map : 1001

next go to port forwarding and apply these 2 rules to your ip 192.168.1.3

if you have other rules set-up for other things dont delete them.....
