Vegas is a new period drama from CBS, set in 1960s Las Vegas. Being from CBS, it's also (of course) a police procedural
Wikipedia - Vegas (TV)
The pilot lifts the series above the usual CBS procedurals thanks to the casting and the setting.
It stars Dennis Quaid as Ralph Lamb, a cattle rancher who served as a well-respected military policeman during WWII. After the Governor's niece is found murdered, and with the Sheriff missing, the Mayor (
The West Wing's Michael O'Neill) drafts Lamb in to investigate the murder, having previously served with him in the war. Aiding him are his brother Jack (Jason O'Mara, Hero-Cop-Dad from
Terrible Nova) and Assistant District Attorney Katherine O'Connell (
The Matrix's Carrie-Anne Moss)
Meanwhile, high-level Chicago mobster Vincent Savino (
The Shield's Michael Chiklis) has just moved to Las Vegas to take over operations in the city... leading to the inevitable clashes with the city's new lawman.
Pretty good for a pilot. Better, IMO, than CBS' other new procedural
Elementary (which has Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock Holmes working in New York with Lucy Liu's female Watson). Quaid and Chiklis are both great, and are sure to have many good scenes together as the series progresses.
